Burned worker in NewtonHospitalized after asphalt accident
Johni Olson, brother-in-law of Joe and John Swift, was badly burned at NewtonTown last week while with a paying gang. Asphalt covered his face neck and shoulders. three hours were needed to remove it. He may lose an eye. Olson and family recently moved from Graettinger. He had worked for Farmers Supply Co. The injured man remains in Newton hospital.

Hammill Named For Governor At State Republican Convention
Hammill was selected as the Republican nominee for governor at the state convention on Tuesday on the second ballot. Mark Thornburg of Emmetsburg was named secretary of agriculture on the first ballot. Henningsen and George represented Graettinger at the convention and praised Governor Kendall’s fiery address. Henry Hansen Wins Gold Medal in State Butter Judging
Henry Hansen, buttermaker at Graettinger creamery, won the gold medal for best butter in a state contest at Algona on July 17 conducted by the dairy department at Ames. His score was 95 percent with two silver medals for second in butter judging. About 500 people attended the banquet. prize butter was served. Hansen previously won a similar honor at Waterloo, and his many medals are displayed at his home. Mr and Mrs Hansen and daughter Ruth attended the Algona program. The Times also notes the Times Highway is in splendid shape with a new grade to Emmetsburg and gravel haulers due to start soon.

Electrien Storm Hits Town Early Monday Morning

A flash damaged a bakery power line, blew fuses in multiple spots, and triggered loud thunder that frightened residents. Rain accompanied the storm but no serious injuries were reported.

The Times family enjoyed a pleasant visit in the flower garden at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garl Spies. Hundreds of hollyhocks in bloom created a paradise like effect with intermingled shades. Mrs. Spies tended the flowers all spring and summer and is proud of her effort. Mr. Spies has expanded the garage and added a four sided sleeping gallery on its roof, making fine sleeping quarters in Graettinger. The home sits on a hill with a view across the Des Moines valley, surrounded by shade trees and shrubs. Visitors interested in flowers are invited to see the garden.
