American Red Cross base hospitals lead Europe war effort

The Red Cross built and equipped 36 base hospitals to support American troops in Europe. Each hospital requires 23 surgeons, 2 dentists, 75 nurses, 150 privates, and large stocks of bandages and dressings. Field and evacuation units bridge front lines to rear-base hospitals, where proper care and facilities help save limbs and lives.
