A large Friday crowd attended the Home Declamatory Contest held in the high school assembly room after the ball game. Prizes of one dollar were awarded in Oratorical Dramatic and Humorous divisions to Howard Nefstead Florence Birkland and Gladys Johnson respectively.
The Teachers' Training class at the M E church meets Mondays at 8 pm, now 18 members, with first lessons assigned. Epworth League social planned for Friday in the church basement, light refreshments by young ladies. Plans to host Rev Fred C Taylor of Algona for future meetings. Sunday service by a deacon from Sioux City, Rev A R Cuthbert. Deep snow halted Sunday evening services.

Terril Iowa rises in publicity as the Naval Reserve Athletic Club gains national attention. J O Sabin, Terril native and club founder, chairs the effort with Navy endorsement, aiming to boost enlistments and social ties among sailors. The group plans a nationwide exhibition tour ending in a California naval meet.
A London report credits Dr W N Molison with reviving a six year old patient after the heart stopped for about twenty minutes during tonsil adenoids removal. Artificial respiration pituitary extract and abdominal massage were used. after twenty heart movements revival occurred and fourteen days later the child was much improved and later fully recovered.
John Wyoming Montgomery and his daughter Mae left for Casper Wyoming on Tuesday to visit Mr Montgomery's daughter Mrs Fisher and her family. Montgomery spent some time in Casper years ago with relatives and now revisits the area and associated kin.
The Iowa state railroad commission ruled that when a telephone line had good service before a power line was built the power company must pay for necessary telephone line changes to avoid interference. Exempts preexisting franchisees. new franchisees pay. Farmers and rural telephone users face impact as rural lines outnumber major urban lines. Homestead commends the decision aligned with farmers’ interests.
New library rules allow adults to borrow one book or eight classics for two weeks with a possible renewal of the same period. Minors need a guarantor signature. Fines accrue at one cent per day per book for overdue items, used for library expenses. injuries incur penalties if pages are damaged. Rules were adopted January 12, 1917.
William Nivison father of Mrs. George Lorimer and County Sheriff Thos. Nivison died last Monday evening in his home. He wished to depart with full faculties and consciousness. Funeral services will be tomorrow at ten in his daughter’s home conducted by Rev. R C Mitchell. A peaceful ending to a well respected Hatherville Democrat.
