Graettinger High School defeated the Emmetsburg All Star team 27 to 24 in a hard fought Friday night basketball game at the Graettinger High School gym. Calryin Gammon led Graettinger with 19 points, while Herb Boise and John Jones led Emmetsburg with 4 points each. Next, Graettinger meets Armstrong High this Friday at seven. Prominent Couples Joined in Wedlock
The wedding of Miss Blanch Olson and Mr. J Glenn A Young took place at noon at the bride’s parents home near Wallingford. Rev T J Severson officiated with Miss Leta Young bridesmaid and Clarence Olson groomsman. After a brief ceremony a wedding dinner followed and the couple left for Des Moines for a honeymoon. They will reside on the OQ Ressell farm near Wallingford after February 15. The bride is from the Olson family of Emmet county and the groom from the Young family. Montgomery Donovan Couple Married in Milwaukee Ceremony
Louis Montgomery son of John Montgomery and Miss Irene Donovan of Milwaukee were married there on January 17. They arrived in Graettinger Tuesday and will farm nearby. Montgomery comes from Palo Alto county's notable family. Irene, a welcomed newcomer, is described as winsome and commendable. The Times extends congratulations to the couple.

Death of Waverly Woman Amanda McAffee Fahnstocks
Amanda McAffee Fahnstocks died January 4, 1917 after a long illness. Born February 28, 1881 in Towanda Pennsylvania, she moved with her parents to Roscoe Illinois in 1839 and later married H A Fahnestock on October 5 1865. The couple settled in Waverly Iowa in 1866 and celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1915. She is survived by her husband and sister Mary A Wood, with niece Almeda McAffee having cared for her. Funeral services were held at home with Rev J S Cole, and burial followed at Roscoe.

Graettinger Shows Strong 1916 Business Activity
Graettinger Tile Works and local firms report high year end totals with $18,000 in wages and $100,000 in business. The Graettinger Creamery produced 241,769 pounds of butter earning $77,571.21, while the Lost Island creamery sold 180,881 pounds of butter. Rail freight to and from Graettinger totaled $100,046.52 with 1,154 cars shipped and 529 cars received. The town added new buildings including a high school, bank, and several residences, and investment in electric lighting began under a 25 year gas and electric franchise granted December 13 1916.
