Drivers urged to watch tire weight
Ross R. Ormsby, chairman of the Tire Industry Safety Council, cites a Commerce Department study showing underinflated tires may cost motorists up to 250 million dollars yearly. The report warns low inflation increases tread wear and heat, reducing tire life by 10 to 40 percent when pressure is 4 to 12 psi below recommended.
