Newsy letter from Corporal Sullivan in France describes voyage and frontline life

In a long November 24 1918 letter from Blois France Corporal Frank P Sullivan writes to his father about the December 1917 voyage on the Leviathan formerly the Vaterland and the journey via Liverpool Winchester and Le Havre He recounts camps battles transport trains and billets notes mass at Blois and meeting cousins while reflecting on relief and rest plans He mentions the quartermaster corps transfer the 16th Infantry first division frontline duties and hopes for furlough and homeward bound plans with Christmas and New Year wishes

Letter From Louis P Larson in France Oct 2 1518

Miss Clara Larson of Gracttinger Iowa receives a wartime letter from Louis P Larson at Base Hospital No 61 in France. He mails a Chirlot package and asks for candy and walnuts while noting transfers to convalescent camp and classification, describing wards, beds, nurses, and the grim injuries seen among soldiers. Captain T J Hession Promoted During War

The Times notes Captain T J Hession, son of Dr and Mrs P J Houslow, was promoted from lieutenant to captain on October 23. He trained at Fort Snelling, served at Camp Dodge, and accompanied the 88th Division overseas. He writes from an unnamed town near Paris about war’s end, German exchanges, and daily life, ending with a warm sign off.

Red Cross enrollment drive and obituary blend

Red Cross officers will be at the Pierson land office Saturday to collect $1 memberships as Walnut township lags in paying.
