Graettinger Trios Triumph In Fast Friday Night Basketball

Graettinger High School swept a triple header at the local gym Friday as the girls beat Rodman 86 to 14, the boys defeated Rodman 17 to 16, and the Graettinger seconds won 10 to 7. The seconds’ lineup included Johnson Reeves Noble Young Mills with Craven refereeing. The girls showed marked improvement since opening with Cylinder, building an 8 to 4 lead after one, 14 to 6 at the half, and widening in the third, led by Arlene Grodland.

Rev Roy Olson To Talk Here December 21

Rev Roy Olson a former chaplain and current Lutheran Prison Missions director will speak on crime prevention at First Lutheran church Graettinger on Friday December 21. He will also address Graettinger high school students that forenoon. He has worked with penal reform and youth, earning strong endorsements from educators and church leaders.

Baer and Miler Display In Four Round Exhibition

Champion Max Baer and Johnny Miler fought in Graettinger in a four round exhibition won by Miler after Baer’s powerful punch shook him. Reeves, Baumgartner, Masters and Frettem traveled from nearby towns to watch and discuss bringing Baer and Buddy Baer to Graettinger next summer with plans to match Buddy on Labor Day. Reeves praised Miler and O’Brien, and Hoffman promised to bring Baer brothers to town for future shows.

James Andersen Passes Away After Short Illness

James Andersen 47 a World War veteran died Monday night after a brief illness. Illness began Thursday with flu and complications. Funeral held this morning with a requiem Mass at the Catholic church and a military funeral. Burial in Catholic cemetery. He is survived by his wife six children and one brother.

American Legion boys and others worked to erect the community Christmas tree on Robbins Avenue and string colored lights. Santa Claus will visit Greatfinger on December 15 with free candy for all children, return December 19 with a wagon ride, and visit December 22 with more candy, inviting all boys and girls to see him.

A. A. Axelton, longtime Graettinger resident and celebrated inventor, celebrated his 86th birthday on Saturday December Std. He contributed to pump design with the double action pump and operated the second automobile in town. Now a locksmith and gunsmith, he is proud of his large family and hopes to reach 100.

A Fine Cut Of New Lost Island Lutheran Church

The Ruthven Free Press reports the dedication of a fine new Lost Island Lutheran Church in Lost Island township on Sunday December 2. Pastor Rev M Mandsager from Grachtinger led the service succeeding Rev S C Sande who left in 1924. The history notes Our Savior's Lutheran Church began May 10, 1872 with an 1891 edifice. the old building burned last March and was quickly replaced, praised for the congregation and their sacrifices.

Auto Drivers Warned Over George Hill Coasting Spot

The mayor warns auto drivers that the George hill in the town’s south part is closed to traffic for winter and set aside for coasting only. The area is safe from traffic except at the Martin Myhre residence corner where drivers should proceed cautiously.
