Thore B Duhn Dies in Minnesota after Palo Alto ties

Thore B Dunn a former Palo Alto resident died at his Vining Minnesota home on Wednesday evening November 28. Services were held at his home and Lost Island Lutheran church with final rites at Lost Island cemetery. He leaves wife five sons four daughters and seven grandchildren plus a sister Mrs Iverson. He served as secretary of Vining Lutheran Church and held multiple local posts including town board chair and farmers elevator president.

A December blizzard hits Friday November 30 bringing powdery snow and light traffic disruption on Robbing Avenue near the Timer office. After two weeks of wet weather an inch and a half of slushy snow fell November 26, then a brief fall with drifting powder on Friday.

Catholic Ladies' Aid Bazaar at Hawkeye Theatre

The Catholic Ladies' Aid Bazaar held on Thanksgiving Day at the Hawkeye Theatre drew a large crowd. Patrons supported noon and evening meals and a late lunch. The afternoon show The Cradle Song attracted a big audience and the ladies thank the public for generous patronage.

Hauling Corn South Bringing Coal Back

Ex Urry, a Times office caller, reports a local youth has hauled corn south of Fort Dodge for several weeks, delivering 160 bushels and returning with Town coal. He sold corn at $1.00 per bushel. Ten carloads of cattle were shipped from Grachtinger Monday evening, with D. G. Barringer six loads, A. J. Johnson three, and Alfred Simon one. Many plan near-future unloads. corn and cattle price spread hurts sellers.

Graettinger Considers Matron for City Hall Rest Room

Graettinger businessmen raise funds to cover expenses for a lady matron to staff the city hall rest room on Wednesdays Saturdays and special occasions. The council has not filled the position yet. The matron will exercise police authority. In spring the ladies rest room will be enlarged.

Missionary Daniel Nelann to Speak Here Dec 11 at First Lutheran

Missionary Daniel Nelann will speak at 8 P M at the First Lutheran Church. Rev Daniel Nelson, now in China, is well known locally for teaching parochial school and giving a stereoptic China lecture. He and Nelson left China during the uprising, returned, then were sent back. Bert Nelson was captured by communists and is believed killed. Shelling and hauling crews have been busy at the park for days, shelling 86 000 bushels of corn for J A Spies. The smaller storage crib holds 60 000 bushels unsold. The 80 000 bushel crib is being shelled first while market conditions, to be determined, will affect remaining work.

A participant in the Fair event finished with less corn than he started after a deduction for high. The net result left him 119 pounds short of having any corn, described as a peculiar record of the game.

Slot Machines Confiscated In Estherville Raid

Estherville officers raided seven businesses and seized about 20 slot machines and two punch boards valued at 500 dollars. The haul was taken to the sheriff's office for destruction after funds to be redirected to the school fund. Pinball machines were not seized. no charges will be filed against owners or operators.
