Farmers report 40 to 60 bushels per acre yields with most oats stored on farms. With 16 cents per bushel, much of the crop is fed to livestock, delaying market sales. Supplies are low and drought has hurt the 1981 crop, reducing the overall production outlook.
Miss Ruth Cesana of Iowa State College extents extension service outlines simple fruit juice mixtures. Add lemon zest and juice to rhubarb or generic fruit juice for flavor, plus mint, cherry, and raspberry juices for color. Whey from cottage cheese can enrich drinks, cold tea can dilute for adults, and rhubarb juice is canned by boiling in pint jars five minutes.

George Barringer brother of D C Barringer sustained a badly gashed foot while cutting trees along the Des Moines river. He was taken to Dr Mc Manus where four stitches closed the wound. The accident occurred when the axe glanced, injuring his foot and causing a painful episode likely to keep him out of work a week or two.
Graettinger’s labor day celebration finance committee will stage a motion picture show at the Hawkeye theater on Saturday night August 16. A splendid film will be shown and the Hawkeye theater is expected to be packed. Last year two programs drew satisfactory attendance and locals and surrounding residents anticipate another successful event. Billy advertising will provide full particulars.
Grasshopper Battle Is On as Towa launches a $50,000 pest fund program with over $500 from entomology funds. State entomologists Drake Thornburg Decker lead hundreds of western farmers in a preventive control effort. Researchers from Towastate College and the Agricultural Experiment Station study life history, oviposition, diseases, and parasites.
Mr and Mrs Charles Burg and children arrived from Ottawa Taois for a brief visit with local relatives by car. Burg held a steady job at a glass factory in Ottawa. The General Motora Co recently sold a large glass business and placed an order for 10 million dollars worth of glass to be delivered within seven years.
J B McDonald 42 of a farm two miles southeast of Fistherville died by self inflicted gunshot at 4 46 Tuesday morning. Found by his father, he had suffered sinus trouble and worried over friends financial woes. Born August 4 1889 in Elgin Illinois he lived in Mallyard since 1900. Survived by wife and two children Ralph 5 and Jeanne 2 his father J J McDonald a brother Glenn and sister Mrs Maurine Maguire Cedar Rapids mourn his loss.
Wallingford 6 Graettinger 4 Tuesday evening as Wallingford, with a large crowd of supporters, defeated Graettinger. Wallingford left fielder made a sensational one handed catch robbing Graettinger of two scores. Graettinger lineup included Reynolds pitcher and other named players. This was Graettinger’s only loss this year aside from Emmetsburg.
Mayor Spica purchased the John Leonard residence in Graettinger, located south of Jensen Hardware. Spies crews are repairing and remodeling the property, described as a choice location.
Mrs. A. M. Kinsey of Seattle visits sister Mrs. J. G. Salisbury and stays with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Blair Manday. Kinsey, a Gold Star mother with a son buried in France, recently returned from Europe and remarks Paris as untidy versus American cities and praises Trojan as the prettiest country she visited.
Absences of Earl Jones and equipment issues force cancellation of the picture at Hawk Eye Theatre on Saturday night August 15. Murk Johnson, manager, says the talkin equipment problem caused the halt. the Labor Day committee will conduct the show instead.
The Grachtinger territory reported a pleasant shower Saturday evening with a light rain between five and six p.m. and a heavy burst from seven to eight. Crippen territory saw nearly an inch of rain in the five to six o'clock hour. South of Emmetsburg there was a heavy rain Saturday forenoon with a warm spell on Monday and Tuesday. Sunday was described as an ideal day.

Thompson's Grocery offers numerous bargains and delivers threshing orders over 66 miles before eight. Baumgartners advertise bargains in men's furnishings. Henderson Furniture Co. promotes a sale on summer furniture. Local shops stay up to date with real deals despite hot weather.
Graettinger 7 Ruthven 0 at Wleetric Park as Sam Reynolds pitched for Graettinger and Donald Jones caught. Key Graettinger hitters outplayed Ruthven with smooth turf and minimal errors.
The Iowa State Fair runs August 28 through September 4 offering a vast program valued beyond five million dollars. Amusement features exceed one hundred thousand, livestock show over 6 000 prize animals, agricultural displays near two million, and forty acres of machinery exhibits. Routes and rail rates improve access as thousands camp for free in the State Fair grounds with a nominal 60 cent admission plus travel costs.

W I Stevens returns from central Kansas after six weeks reporting a bumper wheat crop across the state with yields from 20 to 40 bushels per acre. Harvest employs $3.60 to $4.00 daily wages as wheat sells at 22 cents per bushel. He notes numerous new wells being drilled and recalls a near accident in southern Iowa where another car struck his vehicle causing extensive damage to the other car but none to his.

John Montgomery recently returned from Wyoming where he visited his daughters Mrs Msh er and Mrs Mellor and families. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Mellor early in July. The Times extends hearty congratulations to the happy parents.
The Estherville Vindicator reports a large meteor passed over Tuesday evening and allegedly landed in a corn field seven miles northeast of Estherville. Multiple witnesses from Estherville to Graettinger describe sightings of glowing sky, fireball, and a fusillade-like trail with smoke on impact near Graettinger.
Mrs. Lloyd Naae of Traer Iowa and her little brother Don Dwayne Wolcott of Mankato Minnesota visited Friday and Saturday at the home of Dr and Mrs Th T Naae. Mrs Naae and brother returned to Traer Saturday evening. Mr Naae is an operator for the Rock Island at Tyner. He had been stationed there three weeks after working in the local depot over a year until the depression affected conditions.
Miss Evelyn Monk of Iowa City is the new pharmacist at Frick Drug Store succeeding Hazel Rape who resigned. Monk has prior experience in a local drug store and is regarded as capable. Rape had been with Frick Drug Store for several months and her plans are not known.
Mr and Mrs Murland Sandvig and family of Hopkinton were guests of Graettinger and Estherville relatives and friends over Sunday. Mrs Sandvig and children had stayed four weeks, and Mr Sandvig drove her over on Saturday. He works for the State Banking Department and is in charge of a closed Hopkinton bank.
Mrs. Herbert Lancaster is progressing well toward recovery though not fully regaining use of her right hand. Her eyesight, once affected, is improving and Graettinger friends will be pleased by the news of her improving condition.
