Time to Cut Sweet Clover In North Dakota Trial
A North Dakota experiment station trial from 1914 shows cutting sweet clover 12 to 14 inches high yields a strong second crop, while 18 inches or lower than ideal can kill plants. Buds form where stem branches meet. Cutting all branches removes potential new growth. Lower branches allow a larger first cut without harming plants.
