Mallard wife slain in jealousy case to burial
In Banta Barbara California Mrs Rose Marie Bates 26 was shot and killed Sunday by her husband Earl Bates who then killed himself. She had charged abuse weeks earlier and the couple had a fight in San Francisco. Bates fled to Mallard Iowa where he pursued her at a stairway and fired a head shot. He then turned the gun and killed himself. The couple had moved from Omaha to Mallard a year ago.

Funeral Of Marion Kerr Held Last Saturday
Marion Kerr died Tuesday at his Wilson Wisconsin home after bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services were at his home and the Methodist Episcopal church in Graettinger with Rev. Fremont Foul officiating. He was born July 14 1902 near Bloomington Albany later living in Ames and Wilson. Survived by wife Louise Lammers four children his mother sisters and a brother. The Times extends sympathy to the family.

Mrs Turneaure Suffered Broken Hip in Fall
Mrs Turneaure, mother of Mrs George Turneaure, fell Tuesday forenoon reaching for a chair and broke the left hip near the joint. At nearly 90 years old she is restless and uneasy but shows little pain as friends and family in northwest Iowa express sympathy. Capt P O Refsell Dies Publisher of Worthington Times
Capt. P. O. Refsell publisher of the Worthington Times died Sunday from apoplexy. Remains were taken to Emmetsburg for interment with a funeral held Tuesday. He and Mrs. Refsell lived in Emmetsburg before moving to Orthington. He served as city councilman clerk and postmaster and led Company K in Emmetsburg during the Spanish American War. Several relatives live in Wallingford. Further details are not available this week.
