Mrs J K Johnson Dies At High Lake

Mrs J K Johnson died at her son N J Johnson's home in High Lake on Friday April 11 after a week with pneumonia. Funeral services were held at their house and Immanuel Lutheran church with Rev Nordsletten presiding. interment at High Lake cemetery. Survived by eight children including N J Johnson and O T Johnson, with a long life in High Lake township. Burial marked by a large gathering of neighbors, friends, and devoted Christian community members.

Marion Kerr Dies in Wisconsin Death Saturday Funeral

Marion Kerr died at Garden City Wisconsin Tuesday morning at age 71 after pneumonia. The body will be taken to Henry Lammers’s home east of town, arrival tomorrow. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 1 pm at the house and 2 pm at the M church in town. Further notices will appear in next week’s Grachtnger Times.

Butter Creamery Reports Strong First Four Months

A Nice Increase In Butter Serratory Lambe of the Grachtin ger Creamery Co. says the company saw a notable rise in business in the first four months of the fiscal year. From December 1 to April 1, butter production reached 109,000 pounds, up from 87,000 pounds in the same period last year. Last year was a record year, and the current start suggests 1930 could be a banner year for the company.

New Car Purchases Highlight Local Sales Week

Several new cars were bought in the past week including a Chevrolet coach and a Ford spare model. Hilton Harris bought a Vingex sedan, while John J. Sullivan acquired a Durant 6-14 from Clymmensen and Mantors in a busy local car market.

Battling Barney Hassel Wins Title at Spencer Ring

Barney Hassel of Graettinger defeated Charles Ruble of Spencer by decision in a hard fought heavyweight bout before 3600 to 4000 fans. The match, eight rounds, saw Hassel briefly down in the first and second rounds but the referee awarded him the decision as Ruble failed to prevail. Hasseltrained by Ben Reeves, with Reeves and his son Kenneth credited for support, is praised for effort and fitness as the Graettinger camp plans further bouts and field opportunities.

Sister of Robert Starkey Dies in Toledo

Mrs. Della Theisen, sister of Robert Starkey of east of Gract Linger, died at her Toledo home on February 26 from heart failure. She was 60 and survived by her husband and nine children. Starkey, Kenneth, and William drove 900 miles to attend the funeral, completing the trip in 12 hours on a paved route from Emmetsburg to Toledo.

Flames Fatal to Anderson Child in Farm Fire

Marilyn Anderson age 21 months died after gasoline spilled from a can ignited by a flatiron at the Arceraon farm home in Jack Creek township. Mrs. Anderson and others battled flames. the blaze damaged the dining room and ceiling but did not consume the house. Marilyn, born July 23, 1928, left behind seven siblings. Funeral held at home with burial in High Lake cemetery. Rev. Kinney officiated.

Graettinger High Baseball Faces Long Schedule

Graettinger High coach Dunmire announces a long season with many games this year. Monday Graettinger fell to Ayrshire 6 to 4 after leading 4 0 late. Pitchers Wikert Reaves and Jones worked for Graettinger. Upcoming is a Rodman county tournament game versus Curlew May 2 at 2 30 pm. Rodman hosts the county tourney and Graettinger plays several other local dates.

Flower and Plant Sale at Osher Department Store

The Methodist Sunday School will hold its annual flower and plant sale at Osher Department Store on Saturday April 19. Purchases include tulips anemias ferns and geraniums to brighten homes for Easter. Proceeds benefit the Sunday School.
