New Democratic Tariff In Force

The new democratic tariff is in force as the first such tariff since 1894, aiming to lower living costs and curb protectionist trusts. Meats milk eggs will be free, most vegetables stay duty bound, potatoes may be free from certain exporters, wheat taxed countervailing, cattle and sheep free, eggs free, milk and cream free, bread 25 percent, salt free, sugar freed in three years, few vegetables free in natural state with most taxed at five percent.

Correction clears rumor on Medora report cost

The Chronicle corrects a rumor that publishing the Temple-Webb report would cost taxpayers over 2000 dollars. It states the complete report would cost under 50 dollars at legal rates, yet the findings amount to over 50 000 dollars in irregular transactions and double payments, as submitted by Temple Webb Co. and criticized public accountants of St Paul.

Tariff Changes Lowers Food Prices and Freezes Some Goods

The new tariff lowers duties on many foods including cabbage beans lentils beets pickles oatmeal butter apples peaches and pears lemons limes grapefruits and pineapples while bananas become free. Flour remains free from certain countries and most manufactured farm goods see reduced or eliminated duties. Arrested for Selling Mortgaged Wheat in Burkey

Sheriff Madison arrested Peter J. Hammeral of Burkey on Wednesday on a complaint by Gust A. Johnson for the Goodridge-Call Lumber Co claiming a mortgage on wheat was sold without permission. Hammeral appeared before Justice Roserberg and remains in custody until next Monday's hearing. The case highlights illegal sale of mortgaged property.

Put Gasoline and Matches in Grain

In Drake North Dakota October the threshing crew faced vandalism when a shock from P F Riba’s rig yielded a quart gasoline bottle linked to a box of matches. World Series Opens As New York Faces Philadelphia

Across the United States the World Series between New York and Philadelphia captures local interest. The event began Tuesday in New York before about 40 000 fans, yielding over 25 000 in gate receipts.
