A lively Beach election race narrows to four Democrat candidates for postmaster: W. C. Ripley J. J. Bartley H. M. Heath and John M. Baer. Current postmaster J. W. Brinton, a Republican, seeks no reappointment as his term ends July 20.
Reports from Wibaux tell of the sudden disappearance of Bert Brimmer from Aberdeen where he had been staying with his sister. The 45 year old farmer, ill and often melancholic, left Aberdeen on April 8 with a bank draft and cash but arrived in Wibaux April 10 without his fur coat or grip. Chief Keeble investigated. a reward was posted for information leading to his discovery dead or alive.
Farm owners are urged to register farm names under a new state law. County registrars of deeds handle filings, and printed farm stationery with the registered name can boost advertising and pride. Be progressive and file your farm name.
Mandan North Dakota May 20 Gintzler cashier of the Elgin State bank left Elgin on Thursday 8 in his automobile and took a Milwaukee main line train near Lemmon South Carolina. No trace found. Bank paper shows a shortage of 8461 with bond from National Security for 5000 and balance made good by H R Lyon. Stockholders listed include H R Lyon L A Tavis Glen Ullin M Tachida C L Timmerman Mandan M C Carlson Cannon Ball and Thos E Hayward Mandan.
The Mississippi Valley Historical Association will meet in North Dakota in 1914 after competing bids from Omaha and other cities. The national group draws members across many Midwest states totaling about a thousand, with North and South Dakota and neighboring states well represented. Also notice to contractors bids for a 20 by 30 frame schoolhouse in District No 19 due June 20 1913 and completion by September 1 1913 with right to reject all bids.
A mass meeting in Beach elected an executive committee to organize the July Fourth celebration. Members chosen were J. P. Smith, M. W. Power, and J. W. Brinton with Otto Stensrud, C. F. Smith, J. P. Smith, P. H. Lee, and G. M. Foster as nominees. The committee will meet Saturday to plan and assign sub committees.
At a capitol meeting the State Banking Board approved a policy requiring secretary of state referrals for all new bank charter applications. The board will assess population and business need, with state examiner input if necessary, aiming to curb speculative blue sky schemes and ensure genuine banking need. Officials anticipate potential mandamus actions, with possible legislative changes looming.
Governor Hanna has been named a member of the council of governors for the national Highway Association. The council will advise the trustees on road development work across the United States.
California enacts the alien land bill into law despite protests from Japan and federal officials. Governor Johnson signed the measure with the act set to become operative August 10, while national negotiations with Japan and political opposition threaten the timeline and potential November 1914 delays.

The M. E. Church plans regular morning services next Sunday with no evening sermon due to the baccalaureate. Probationers will join the church and letters of transfer read. A baptismal service and Lord's Supper will be held. Temperance talks by Mrs. LaMance on June 2 and 3. Admission free.
Reports from the post office department show 59,500,000 parcel post packages sent in April. This marks a 54 percent rise from January, the system's start, with Chicago handling 6,397,692 parcels to lead all cities in April parcel post business.
