Beach hosts a large Independence Day celebration with more than 25 floats in a parade offering prizes for top floats and decorated cars. Events include sports at the park and front street, horse races at the fair grounds, baseball games, fireworks, and multiple dances and shows throughout the day. Local merchants back the program with lively participation.
Last Sunday a fair-sized crowd visited Richards Heights owned by Beach Improvement Co. Visitors admired the location and city view. Improvements since spring include three houses and tree planting. The addition, though a little distant, is only three blocks from the new N. P. depot site and may become one of the finest residence portions in the city.
A. H. Bakke and A. C. Townley returned from Colorado Tuesday night. Townley farms extensively at Cheyenne Wells preparing 4000 acres for winter wheat to be sown in August. He uses three gas tractors here. Bakke and Peter Rutz, recently retired, are also interested in the same neighborhood.
Washington reports Beach postoffice elevated to second class effective July 1 1911 with annual salaries 2100 for postmaster 700 for assistant postmaster and 600 for money order clerk. Miss Anna Jacobs named assistant and Miss Hilda Endergen money order clerk. New quarters leased for five years reflecting rapid city growth.
Mr and Mrs Guy Lovell returned from a two week trip across North Dakota in their National automobile. They visited Mandan Fargo Grand Forks Minot Kenmare Beach and Williston noting good roads fine crops and no car troubles.
A Morton County jury found the Chronicle editor not guilty in a Billings County dispute that cost about 5000 and drew Mandan News criticism. The same issue reports a pretty wedding in St Paul as C J N Nelson and Gunda Cecelia Olson unite, with descriptions of attendees and future plans.
President E. E. Noble of the First National Bank reports wheat expansion in Golden Valley, flax down from last year, and a promising harvest outlook if favorable weather continues. He notes alfalfa growth, high quality hogs at Earl Walters farm near Carlyle, and growing diversification among farmers.
Father will host a large dance in a new barn one mile east and four and a half miles south of Beach on Tuesday evening June 33. Supper will be served and ladies are asked to bring cake. Beach orchestra will provide music and all are invited for a good time on a 36 by 60 foot floor.
At the Dawson County commissioners meeting in Glendive on Tuesday, a saloon license was approved for William Rucker of Wibaux for the Stateline town area a mile and a half west of Bemidji. Work to build begins next week.
The N P chief engineers plan a Beach depot cost 15 000 to 20 000 to be built between Blanche and Hunter streets. Contractor E E Salzman must bid by June 10 for completion by September 1. The 168 foot by 30 foot brick structure will include waiting rooms ticket office baggage and express rooms a coal bin and two four ton scales. The article also notes a failing theatre troupe performance in the opera house and its quick breakup after a small audience.
Beach officials and butchers consider opening a third market after the Callender Hotel’s rise spurred new commerce. H B Howell and J T Nicol from Sparta Wis will launch Beach Cash Market west of the hotel with Nicol in charge. The shop will focus on meats initially and may add groceries and vegetables in the fall.
