Not Guilty Brinton Assault Case Ends Week-Long Trial

The Mandan News notes the jury found editor Brinton not guilty after a week of testimony. Judge Nichols delivered a fair charge and the panel, watched by bailiffs, reached verdict after extensive courtroom debate between State's Attorney Gallagher and defense counsel. The case, tied to factional tensions in Beach and Golden Valley, involved claims Brinton defended himself against an earlier assault by Leonard Stockwell. Some locals expect no more similar trials amid general disappointment in the proceedings.
