Catholic Church Under Way Across Street from Lutheran

Ground was broken this week for the basement of the new Catholic church to be erected just across the street to the north from the Lutheran church.

Church Construction Bid Awarded in St. Paul

O V Nesvik of St Paul won the bid for a 40 by 100 foot church with concrete basement and stone and brick walls. The project costs about 30000 dollars when finished and aims to have basement ready for fall use with completion next year. A school on the old site may come years later.

Young Lady Bitten by Rattlesnake Near Sentinel Butte

Anna Olstad of near Sentinel Butte was bitten last Wednesday by a rattlesnake near her home. She, in danger and under a physician's care, was dragged to Sentinel Butte for treatment after a second snake bit her sister on the leg. The condition is described as very dangerous with little hope of recovery.

Golden Valley Club Grows

The Golden Valley club held its second meeting in the club rooms last Wednesday with large attendance. Fifty five new members were voted in, bringing total membership to about 125. Members praised the club and discussed social and civic improvements. A committee plans adding furniture and a billiard table to create a better member pleasure resort, with expectations to reach 250 members by the September meeting.

A Joke on the Prof Ventiloquist in Raleigh

Prof J N G White, a ventriloquist, caused a coffin with a corpse to be moved from a baggage car in Raleigh. He threw his voice as if from the coffin, scaring two negroes who dropped the coffin and fled. White was questioned and fined a small amount.

Chronicle Editor Assaulted By Wand And Police

Chronicle editor Brinton was attacked on a city street last Saturday when Robert Wand struck him in the face breaking eyeglasses. Chief Gowers intervened as Brinton fought back, Wand choked Brinton, and a window in Sunders store was broken. Witnesses say the assault was prearranged with Gowers present to prevent interference. Wand, a known barroom fighter, may have acted as a tool for others opposed to Brinton’s stance on Gowers regarding Blum ann’s killing. Brinton and about 50 citizens later urged the council to remove Gowers.

Move to adopt commission form of city government

A petition to switch to a five member at large commission government is to be presented to the city council on Monday August 11. Supporters note recall power and direct public influence, with signatures already gathered from 30 or 40 businessmen. The move follows trends in Fargo Dickinson and other cities as residents discuss electing commissioners over wards.
