Granbury Men Fined for Drunkenness After Weekend Arrests

Two Granbury men were arrested by City Marshal Danny Smith and charged in Justice Court with DWI and drunkenness. The driver received a $100 fine, $20 costs, and a three day jail sentence plus a six month license suspension. his companion paid a $15.50 fine.

Weather cools in Glen Rose as scarce rain persists

In Glen Rose cooler air arrives but Somervell County remains dry with only .32 inch rainfall recorded over the past week by A. S. Weather Bureau official T. J. Davis. A Wednesday thundershower brought about an inch in Rainbow area, though most of the county stayed under a heavy cloud cover as the Reporter filed late Wednesday afternoon.

Walnut Springs Hornets fall in first grid game of season

The Walnut Springs High School Hornets lost their opening six man football contest 27 to 31 against the Coolidge Yellowjackets. Mike Taylor scored three times and Boots Kretzmeier added a single tally for Walnut Springs.

County Commissioners Postpone Budget Vote

Somervell County commissioners heard the proposed budget at the courthouse Monday but did not act and postponed the vote to the next regular meeting on Monday morning October 12. Auditor Cecil Parker prepared a tentative 1965 budget with projected county income of 67000 and minor ad valorem tax allocation changes. Public invited to attend.

No Kin Known of Man Buried Here Friday

Lewis Self, 83, who died September 10 at Marks English Hospital after a heart attack at Johnny's Courts, was buried Friday in Glen Rose Cemetery. He had lived here with no known living relatives and received funeral rites at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating.

Public meeting on Somervell recreation center drive

A second public meeting near Jiggs Bran ham road west of town drew about 40 residents to discuss a family recreation center project. The steering committee led by Volker Eenst and Earl Iscksen outlined steps to secure financing, with a tentative project cost of 215000 for a lake nine hole golf course and clubhouse.

Plans for Glen Rose High School ex students homecoming near completion with events Friday September 25 at 6 p.m. include a pep rally bonfire a talent show and garden party. Saturday features a noon luncheon a reunion meeting a class float parade led by the Golden Tiger Band and an open range bar-b-que at 5:30 p.m. Football game vs Grandview starts at 8 p.m. with crownings. Special honor for Golden Anniversary graduates from 1909 to 1915.

Glen Rose Tigers over Kennedale 12 to 6 with Timmerman scoring a second period TD and Calvin Boyd adding the final tally. Kennedale’s score came in the third on Darrel Johnson. Glen Rose advances to 1-1 and heads to Meridian for a non conference game with the Yellowjackets.
