Cooke to Not Seek Reelection as State Representative

Rites Held Monday For Herman Daniel

Funeral rites for Herman T. Daniel aged 70 were held Monday at 2 30 p m in Reynolds Funeral Chapel with Rev Hubert Taylor officiating He died Sunday in a Cleburne hospital after a lengthy illness Daniel was born August 3 1903 in Tipton Oklahoma to Joe C and Bertha Tipton Daniel Survivors include wife Mary of Glen Rose one son Buford of Glen Rose one daughter Mrs Aldina Van Kirk Fort Worth three brothers and four sisters eight grandchildren and one great grandchild Burial was in Lanham Mill Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home in charge Pallbearers were James Daniel Glennis Million don Whitworth and Melvin Moore Mr and Mrs Jack Lewis John and Marilyn visited from Fort Worth Saturday

Charles Talley Takes Farm Bureau Post

Charles Talley of this city resigns as secretary-manager of the Texas Polled Hereford Assn after years in that role to become Manager for the Hood Somervell District of the Texas Farm Bureau. He starts Dec 1, will office in Granbury and reside in Glen Rose where he serves on the City Council and supports 4 H Club work.

Weigh-In Set for Somervell County Junior Livestock Show

Cecil Wood, president, announces Saturday as weigh-in day for beef steers, barrow pigs and fat lambs to be shown in March. Weighing at Chaparral Ranch pens on Highway 67 from 9 a.m. to noon. 4-H FHA and FFA members and Walnut Springs students urged to bring animals and obtain entry cards from Doyle Cooper or Bill Cowan. Only weighed and marked animals will be eligible for the March show.

Lights Contest Off In Energy Saving Move

City and Chamber officials agreed to turn off nonessential lighting for the holiday season. Decorative lollipops will be installed at courthouse corners but the lights will not be illuminated. The FFA will skip its Home and Business Christmas Lighting Contest to conserve energy while regular street lighting remains dusk to dawn and a few new fixtures may be added for safety.

Fort Worth Man Jailed In DWI Case

John O. Tanner of Fort Worth was arrested at 12 05 a m Sunday and jailed by Highway Patrolman Bob Brock on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was released on bond the next day and will be arraigned in County Court.

Postmaster G. C. Gibbs Jr announces December 3 8 as Christmas Mail Early Week in Glen Rose due to fuel energy crisis affecting mail movement. Glen Rose High School boys head to Aquilla Friday for tournament action with a first game against Venus. Tonight the girls play in Stephenville starting at 5 30. Stephenville Junior High girls and boys host games with the girls at 6 p m. Monday brings a basketball marathon on the local hardwood with all boys and girls A and B teams at 5 p m. Fay Dove spent Thanksgiving with her sister.

Local Man Tags Big Deer in County Saturday

Rudy Green in town Monday showed an 18 point deer rack from a buck he killed Saturday a few miles west of town. The antlers show evidence of a past fight with the ends of three points broken. The deer field dressed 110 pounds.

Local man critically hurt in Farm Road 199 loader accident

James Broadway of this city suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries when the front end loader he was driving overturned on the Georges Creek bridge on Farm Road 199 Tuesday morning. He was transferred from Reynolds Funeral Home ambulance to Harris Hospital in Fort Worth and is in intensive care after the crash. Broadway is employed by Sand & Rock Products Inc. and was pinned under the machine before help arrived.

Cleburne Woman Buried Here After Fatal Altercation

Funeral services were held for Amanda Louise Groom 36% of Rt 4 Cleburne with Rev J V Pace officiating. She died after a family altercation and an autopsy ruled heart attack. Survived by husband Gordon and four children. Burial at Ward Branch Cemetery. No charges filed. Johnson County Grand Jury to investigate next session.

Christmas Caroling on the Courthouse Lawn

The county wide Christmas Carol Sing Song event named Christmas for the Birds will be held Wednesday on the courthouse lawn. The Dinos program includes a high school band directed by Harold Parnell from 6 15 to 6 30 followed by carol singing directed by Raymond Elliott. Methodist Plan Holiday Program at First Church

The women of First United Methodist Church will decorate a Chrisman tree and present a program Sunday at 6 p.m. under the direction of Mrs. Cecil Parker. The tree will remain in the church Sanctuary throughout the holiday season.

Randy Hewlett Dies Of Injuries In Auto Wreck

Randy Hewlett son of Jim Hewlett of Granbury died in a California hospital from injuries from a Sunday automobile wreck near El Toro. He was stationed at a US Marine Base and born in Lubbock on April 22 1953. A Glen Rose High School graduate of 1971 he attended Texas A&M for a year before joining the Marines. Burial will be in Georges Creek Cemetery with arrangements by Reynolds Funeral Home. complete obituary to follow.

City Announces New Utility Bill Collection Policy

City officials announced a revised policy to improve prompt collections. Bills mailed this month must be paid by the 10th of the following month or water and garbage service will be terminated. A $5 reconnect charge applies to resume service, with payments made only at city hall. Patrons gain up to 40 days before penalties.

Sorority Raises 170 For Yzaquirre Medical Fund

Alpha Lambda sorority members presented the Chris Yzaquirre family with 170 to help cover medical bills after their son was hospitalized and had three surgeries. The gift was given last week after a chapter meeting at Mrs. James Moss home attended by 12 members, four new initiates were welcomed.
