Joe Ray Shock was burned when an oven door released butane gas in a house at Squaw Creek Valley Ranch. Fire Marshal Danny Butler estimates losses at six to seven thousand dollars as local firemen struggled due to water shortage. Shock, a boilermaker for H B Zachery Co., was hospitalized with burns to both hands. The home, owned by Texas Electric Service Co., sits in the area slated for a nuclear power plant installation near Lake Granbury.

Voters reject sheriff and tax office separation proposal
In Glen Rose a light turnout of 378 cast ballots on nine proposed state constitutional amendments and a plan to separate sheriff and tax assessor collector offices. Voters defeated the separation 228 to 148 while approving four amendments including homestead protections for single adults and expanded tax exemptions. They also backed bonds for Gulf Coast seawalls, and an extra 100 million in Veterans Land Fund bonds, but rejected amendments on legislative sessions and salaries, conservation district rules, district court probate jurisdiction, city ad valorem tax authority, and tax exemptions for non profit water entities.
