Local voters face a Tuesday decision on separating the sheriff from the tax assessor collector offices. The editorial supports separation, noting efficiency and better financial management. It urges citizens to vote for splitting the offices to improve county governance and records.
On Tuesday General Election Day Texas voters will decide nine proposed amendments to the State Constitution. Somervell County voters also face a proposal to separate the offices of sheriff and tax assessor collector creating a new County Tax Assessor Collector office. Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in six precincts.
Charlie Vineyard, Ninth Annual Lord's Acre Lord's Hour Projects Festival chair, said preparations are complete for the event by First United Methodist Church. Activities begin at 9:00 a.m. in the DeKeiffer Building on Highway 67 with a Country Store and Bake Sale featuring handmade decorations and gifts. A spaghetti dinner runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at $1.50 per person, including drink and dessert.
In 18th District Court Judge Byron Crosier denied a new trial for J. C. Poe and Jimmy W. Goatney convicted of marijuana possession. The judge suspended Goatney's 10 year sentence, placed him on 10 years felony probation, and reduced Poe's sentence from 15 to 10 years in the state penitentiary.
Texas Parks and Wildlife announces Special Antlerless Deer Tags for designated areas in Somervell County will be issued at the courthouse on Tuesday November 13 from 8 am to 5 pm. Landowners or agents may apply, as Joe T. Stevens a Clifton based biologist reported a healthy county deer census.
A proclamation from Somervell County and Glen Rose city officials designates November 1973 as Food and Fiber Appreciation Month.
