Cleburne Man Dies in Sunday Crash

James D. Stobaugh, 28, a Brown & Root construction worker, died on arrival after a 1965 Chevrolet truck left Highway 144 in front of Reynolds Funeral Home, hit a rock fence and tree. He lived in Cleburne, formerly of Athens, survived by wife and one child. Body sent to Morrilton Arkansas for funeral.

Absentee Balloting Underway in City and School Elections

Absentee balloting in the city and school elections is underway. Beginning Monday it continues until April 1. Absentee ballots must be cast at the county clerk's office during office hours.

Bill Mack Program Set At Walnut Den

Bill Mack and the Mid-nite Cowboys perform at the Lion's Den in Walnut Springs on March 22 at 8 p.m. The Walnut Springs 4-H Club sponsors the show with all proceeds funding the Lake Brownwood 4-H Camp. Bosque County 4-H members sell advance tickets for $2 adults, $1.50 ages 12 to 18, and 75 cents under 12. door prices are higher. Concessions will be available during the show.

Phone Hearing On Local Phone Rates Held

More than 40 residents attended a public hearing Monday on proposed rate increases by Continental Telephone Co. of Texas. City council members questioned the presenters and filed complaints, but no action was taken. Mayor Dan McCarty said the council would decide at the April 7 regular meeting.

W G Marquardt of Texas Electric Service Co announced that Texas Utilities Services Inc a TESCO has signed a contract with an Moscow based firm for a development project to assess underground gasification of deep lignite coal in East Texas. The pilot aims to study fuel gas for electricity generation as US gas and oil supplies rise in cost.

Junior Livestock Show Set For Friday

The 19th Annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Show will open Friday at 8 a.m. at the Somervell County show grounds. The event, led by Cecil Wood as president, features judging of swine, dairy cattle, sheep, beef cattle, horses and open bull show, with a banquet and sale at 5:30 p.m. and a livestock auction at 7:30 p.m. Division superintendents include Leslie Hart for swine and others for cattle, sheep, and homemaking segments.

Grand Jury Bills Four On Charges Here Thursday

The Grand Jury of the 18th District Court returned four indictments this Thursday. Nancy Jane Bragwell faces a removal and concealment of mortgaged property charge for taking a 1963 Ford pickup from the county. Ronald Gene Moses is charged with theft over $200 and burglary of the Dick Moore home in Chalk Mountain. James Vernon Mitchell of Grand Prairie and David Wayne Elliott of Dallas are indicted for aggravated robbery of the Red Barn store here. Mr. and Mrs. Jerre Deason were business visitors in Fort Worth Thursday.

Story Hour Sees 42 Children at Glen Rose Library

A total of 42 pre schoolers registered for weekly Tuesday Story Hour sessions at Glen Rose-Somervell County Library through April 29. Coordinators Mrs Gary Marks and Mrs Charles Jordan lead activities with children including Lance Becker Brady Brown Chris Bryant Roy Lee Cogdill and 40 others. The Family Living Committee sponsors Story Hour with an Easter egg hunt for Story Hour groups on Tuesday and the library board installed a front door book drop for after hours returns.
