The City of Glen Rose and Somervell County unite to upgrade the city-owned landfill. They have graded the facility, covered debris, and dug pits to handle solid waste and developed a complete set of regulations governing its use.
J C Mathiews, senior agricultural education major from Tarleton State University, begins student teaching under W B Cowan Jr in the local school. He hails from Woodson and plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree after training.
Vernon S. Taylor Billy Joe Parnell and Miss Natalie Susan Cummings have been elected Outstanding Teenagers of America 1975 in Glen Rose. Principal Luther Dunkerson nominated them for academic achievement and community service. They will now vie for state honors. Taylor is son of Bob and Mrs. Taylor. Parnell son of Harold Parnell. Cummings daughter of Zack Cummings.
Sunshine Club officers announced lunch service at their Country Kitchen in the old Jameson Manor location from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday through Saturday, June 7. The menu features country biscuits and corn bread at 2.00 per plate with profits benefiting community causes. Mrs Sammie Wright and granddaughter Sherry Frank of Fort Worth helped celebrate Mrs Neva Lane's birthday Monday.
City of Glen Rose reports 1974 sales tax revenue of 26,753.14, up 3,851.52 from 1973. Quarterly figures show a record third quarter and a projected uptick for the current year. Total five year collections stand at 87,345.32 with last quarter 1974 at 6,847.63. Reporter deadline noted as noon Tuesdays for news and advertising copy.
KVTV Channel 11 will air What's Afoot in Carpet Care at 10 a.m. Saturday. Somervell County extension agent Mrs. David Brown explains dirt can cut the pile and crease wear and tear on carpet pets, and the half hour program will cover carpet care.

Weather in the Glen Rose area over the past week was mild and dry with only .08 inch of moisture gauge. Temperatures ranged from a low of 29 degrees on Wednesday to a high of 84 degrees on Thursday. Total moisture for the year through Monday was 4.90 inches. Weather Observer Robert Mack provides the figures for March 4 to March 10.
S A Jackson of this city pleaded guilty in 18th District Court to breaking and entering a motor vehicle. Judge Byron Crosier sentenced him to three years in the state penitentiary with probation of the penalty.
Somervell County marks its 100th anniversary with a noon ceremony at the High School. Tiger Band under Harold Parnell performs 30 minutes at the flag pole, invocation by Rev. Bill Schibler, flag ceremony by FFA and first graders pledge. Diana Dove and Jack McCarty speak, a Time Capsule is buried under Lloyd Wirt Jr. supervision. If weather blocks outdoor events, ceremonies move to the auditorium.
Cecil Wood announces the 18th Annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Show on Highway 67 Friday March 21. Weighing starts 8 a.m. entries due by 9 30 a.m. Prizes awarded at 5 30 p.m. Banquet then food auction and livestock sale begin 7 30 p.m. with a full schedule to be published next week.
300 barbecue plates prepared by Somervell County Home Demonstration Club women will be served at the annual Junior Livestock and Homemaking Show supper on March 21 at 5 30 p m at the show grounds. No advance tickets. first come, first served. Plates cost $2 for adults and $1 for children.
Dennis Wayne Overton of Fort Worth was jailed Friday by Highway Patrolmen Bob Brock and Mike Davis on a driving while intoxicated charge. He posted bond Saturday and will be arraigned in County Court.
The board extended Superintendent Charles Gibbs's contract for three years through 1977-78. Principals Luther Dunkerson and Laurie Moseley gained extensions to 1976-77. Several teachers received new two year contracts including Wendell McPherson, J F Ramsay, Gertrude Waggoner, Alan Thompson, Laura Riddle, Mary Jo McDonough, Danny Butler, and others.
Seventeen persons seek three Glen Rose Independent School District board seats and five vie for two city council slots. Mayor Dan McCarty seeks reelection. School candidates include Bob Taylor not running, Lloyd Locke, Mrs. Ken Trimble, Dale Montgomery, Joe Paul Morrow, Robert Kiles, W. D. Stewart, B. J. Morris, James O. Teague. County board terms for Elbert Wilson, Earl Flanary, Clyde Armstrong also up, with write in for Precinct 1. City council incumbents Ivy and Marsh seek reelection. Langdon Osborn Garrett also seek seats. Election day set for Saturday April 5.
Three Glen Rose High School basketball players one boy and two girls earned spots on the All-District squad in Whitney last week. Vernon Taylor Janis Lemens and Dian Burns were selected with honorable mentions for Teree Hatley and Pam Drake.
