Jack McCarty notes the 11th annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Home Making Show and the Quarter Horse Show as successes, thanks the Working Indians for their work, and recalls a rattlesnake report from Danny Butler who counted seven rattlers and a button after staying safe.
Glen Rose High School placed four girls and one boy on the All-District basketball teams and had two boys and two girls listed for honorable mention. Tigerettes Judy Marks Melba Beck Mitzi Miller Paula Marsh made the teams while Glenda Stewart Mary Ann Strawn earned honorable mention. John Shackelford was the lone Tiger on All-District with Bennie Nickell and Gary Marks getting honorable mention.
The 14th Tiger Relays will begin Saturday at the local football stadium with about 40 teams. Midlothian High School, defending champion, is among 29 schools already signed up for the competition, per Coach Weldon Hart.
Crabtree Chevrolet Co. of this city was the low bidder on a 1967 model 2 ton dump truck purchased Monday by the Commissioners' Court of Somervell County. The unit cost 3,893.31 dollars and included a new heavy duty dump bed for use by Commissioner J. B. Gosdin of Precinct No. 3.
Somervell County veterans and their dependents received $14,579.00 in January benefits, according to the Texas Veterans Affairs Commission report on monetary benefits by county for January 1967.
Final applications were prepared this week for Glen Rose Schools to participate in the State Foundation Program. The local Board of Trustees seeks 119,339 dollars in state assistance covering teachers salaries transportation allotment and per capita payments, representing about 60 percent of the total budget, per Supt J M McCroskey.
Two vehicle accidents in Somervell County last week caused about 1200 in damages. A Friday collision at Barnard and Walnut Streets involved a 1962 Chevrolet driven by Mrs. Gene Linch and a 1959 Ford driven by Louise Watkins, with about 100 damage to each car. Mrs. Linch was cited for turning without safety and Mrs. Watkins for driving without a license. The second crash occurred Saturday on Highway 67 near town when a 1967 Ford pulling a 1967 Silver Streak trailer veered, caused the trailer to strike the car, and end in a ditch. Damages were about 600 to the trailer and 400 to the car. no injuries reported.
Four year old Dale Johnson died and his six year old brother Lee is in serious condition after being found in a deep freeze. Funeral services were held Wednesday with relatives attending from Garner Ramsay Reeves and others. The scene shifts to a cast rehearsal for A Womanless Wedding at the Ag Hall tonight at 7:30. The annual Science Fair opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. and runs Saturday morning with films, a Curacy Beast of the Amazon showing, and trophies from local sponsors.
H. A. Jackson, proprietor of Jackson's Auto Sales, announces in the Reporter display ad that he is now a consignment dealer for the full Ford line including automobiles and pickups. He invites the motoring public to view the new 1967 Ford lineup on display at his local showroom and lot.
City Council approved a resolution asking taxpayers to authorize selling about three acres in City Park Addition, currently designated as a city park. Mayor Walter Ernst and council members say the land is unimproved and not maintained as a park and should be sold to return to tax rolls. The issue will appear on the April 4 ballot.
Doctor Robert D English a local physician is in Ardmore Oklahoma this week serving as evangelist at the Mary Niblock Baptist Church revival He preached there last year and was invited to return He cites his role in conducting prefinance through Ford Co Easter meeting and leading the revival efforts in the area
Jake Brown of Fort Worth, president of the District Singing Convention, announced that the spring sessions will be held at the Agricultural Building on Highway 67 here on Saturday night and Sunday March 25 and 26. He invites all to attend both sessions and bring a basket lunch to be shared Sunday at noon. An excellent program has been planned with many outstanding gospel singers in the region. Other officers are Mickey Marlow, vice president, and Mrs Wood Owen, secretary.
The Tiger track team of 20 members, led by five returning lettermen Benny Nickell, John Shackelford, Ricky West, Bob White, and Don Jones, is entered in the Tarleton Relays at Stephenville on Saturday. This is the team's first meet of the season.
Mr and Mrs N B Gartrell have sold their farm to son Floyd Gartrell and moved last week to a rental house owned by Mrs Bart Baldwin in Wichita Falls marking a family relocation after a farm sale.
Sam White of the Somervell County Livestock & Poultry Assn announces the 11th annual Junior Livestock & Poultry Show as a standout. Grand champions span beef Angus heifer Jo Ellen Youngblood and steer Bob White, dairy Brown Swiss heifer Terry Starnes, sheep, goats, swine, horses, and a large list of division winners chosen from local youths and exhibitors.
