Bill Ford Named Supt. at Belton

Bill Ford, former Glen Rose Schools teacher, named Superintendent of Belton Schools succeeding E. V. Huffstutler. Ford has headed Baird ISD for six years, holds a master’s from TCU, and he and Mrs. Ford have a four year old daughter.

Lone gunman robs Vance Wiggins Grocery for $60

A masked bandit entered the Vance Wiggins Grocery and Station last Friday morning, demanded cash, and fled on foot after taking $60. Employee Leroy Chambers described a 25 to 35 year old man about 5 ft 10 in with a blue coat, denim headgear, and a bandana covering his face. Authorities were notified by 6:05.

Tiger Band Association forms booster club

The Tiger Band Association, organized as a Band Booster Club, has held two meetings to elect officers and plan a membership drive. G. C. Gibbs Jr. is president, with Mrs. Weldon Baker as vice president, Mrs. Oran Page secretary, and Mrs. Clinton Earl Whitt treasurer. Membership costs five dollars for businesses and one dollar for individuals, funds to the Bank Uniforms account at First National Bank. Regular meetings are set for the second Tuesday each month at 7 30 in the High School Auditorium.

The Optimist Club breakfast at Glen Rose Coffee Shop discussed the all sports banquet to be held at Glen Lake Camp on Monday evening March 14. Kelley Lewellyn said scouts seek odd jobs to fund their Scout uniforms. Dutch Mann is Scout Master with fifteen members.

The Bosque Soil Conservation District promotes deep rooted sweet clover to open subsoil and supply high protein winter feed. Local farmers J. D. Finct Earl Royal Lonnie Weaks Howard Brawley and H. S. Carswell implement planting and terraced systems while district supervisors collaborate with North Bosque Water Control to plan watershed conservation with technical help from the Soil Conservation Service.

Precinct 2 approves off premise beer sale with dry majority

The Precinct 2 election on the off premise sale of beer resulted in 58 dry votes and 22 wet votes. Balloting occurred at two polling boxes with results in Oden 18 dry 12 wet and Cottonwood 40 dry 10 wet.

Plans for Somervell Livestock and Quarterhorse Shows

Plans advance for the largest Junior Livestock and Poultry Show and Quarterhorse Show in Somervell County. The Junior Show is set for March 18 with school dismissed to allow entries. The Quarterhorse Show begins on Saturday with entries expected to exceed last year as members hold a work day on March 11 to prepare grounds and facilities.

John Davis Buried at White Church

Born June 14 1888 in Somervell County he married Lennie Riley in 1903. Survived by wife son Coll Davis daughter Naydean Miller six grandchildren and five great grandchildren three sisters.
