A Glen Rose First Methodist Church board urges Precinct 2 voters to keep beer off the county and protect youth and public morals. The appeal warns beer hurts businesses and raises court costs, taxes, and accidents, urging turnout for the election.
Two candidates filed for places on the City Election ballot for Councilmen. They are Bill Bruce and Doyle Aston. Four seats are to be filled in the April 5 election.
The Georges Creek Home Demonstration Club met at Mrs. Hallie Russell’s home on February 12 with 11 members. Members recited the prayer and pledge, two poems were read, a council report given, and a Texas gardening program discussed. The group exchanged valentines and drew for the white elephant. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Alpha Threadgill’s home with a program on making house shoes.
The Pentecostal Church will hold a revival beginning March 6 with the Young Evangelistic Trio from Glade Water Texas preaching and singing. Services start each evening at 7 15 and the pastor Rev Hubert McFarlin invites everyone to attend.
Mr and Mrs R T Ratliff and Mrs Jim Ratliff attended the funeral of J E Sessoms brother of Mrs Ratliff. Sessoms was well known in Glen Rose.
Six candidates have filed for places on the Glen Rose Independent School District board. They are Walter Ernst Edward Earl Flanary W A Bridewell Jr H V Bill Lemons W D Stewart and Moody Marsh.
John C. Leach brother of R. C. Leach died in Denver Colorado last Sunday. Funeral services were held at Crozier-Pearson Funeral Home in Cleburne Thursday at 10 a m. Interment followed in Cres Cemetery where his parents are buried. Survivors include several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Mattie Hannan remains quite ill at home after hospital discharge. Her son Leonard Hopkins and daughter in law from Ft Worth spent the weekend visiting.
Soil Conservation Service surveys of recent fires in the Bosque District show perennial grasses survive areas with litter buildup but die where cedar stands were burned. Grazing after fire depletes root reserves and slows recovery. farmers plan to defer grazing and reseed to restore vegetation. Local seed sources and SCS help are available for determining reseeding needs and rates.
Glen Rose High School girls' basketball tied for the district title despite lacking a gym for practice. They lost in the playoff to Midway. seniors include Vancine Hulsey, with coach Paul Schuelke guiding the squad.
Mr. Johannie Rollins of the Southwestern Peanut Growers Association cites USDA figures setting 1960 national average peanut price support at 201.24 per ton, up from 193.50 in 1959. The floor may rise August 1 if needed by law, with type differentials pending.

William James McCroskey of Glen Rose and the University of Texas is elected president of Sigma Gamma Tau the national honorary aero nautical fraternity. A senior aerospace engineering major he is also a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Tau Beta Pi and has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the army.
Mrs. Howard Sego chairs the Somervell County Red Cross Drive now active. The goal is 500 dollars by March 23 as volunteers plan door to door visits, asking all households to prepare donations of any amount.
Weekend visitors arrived with their daughter and family, the M. E. Huffmans, visiting from Victor Colorado to spend time with local relatives.

M. L. Teague announces candidacy for County School Trustee from Precinct 2 in the April 2 election. Joe McCoy will not run from that precinct. Precinct 1 seat, held by Kenneth Miller, is open to fill the unexpired term of A. C. Bohannan, deceased, with no candidate yet announced.
