Temple Summers reported seven men signed up for Glen Rose Independent School District trustee positions this week with Wednesday as filing deadline. No mayor or council candidates yet. four filed for County School Board seats including incumbents. Incumbents seeking reelection on the county board are J B Ivy H L Lilley Earl P Flanary and Clyde Armstrong. Mayor Walter Ernst and councilmen Gene Simpson and Ruby Lane face terms ending this year and have not spoken on reelection.

Somervell County farm and ranch owners are urged to reach County Tax Assessor-Collector Speck Strawn and his deputy to pick up application forms for an agricultural tax evaluation on eligible lands. They will answer questions about the new legislation approved by voters in last November’s Constitutional Amendment election.

February Rain Totals and Week’s Low Temperature
A light drizzle produced .20 inch of rain, according to U. S. Weather Bureau observer T. J. Davis. February rainfall totals reached .74 inches with yearly total at .84 inches, and the week’s low temperature registered 19 degrees on the morning of the 25th.

Historical Survey Committee Plans Friday Benefit Meeting

Two Wrecks Investigated in Glen Rose This Week
Two vehicle crashes were investigated in Glen Rose over the past week with no injuries. On Wednesday a 1956 Chevrolet driven by Vesta Elliott collided with a Sand's Butane truck at Bryan and First Streets near Whitworth's Station. damage valued at $140 to the car and $10 to the truck. No ticket was issued. On Monday a pickup driven by Ward Pinson and a 1967 Mack tractor-trailer collided as Pinson turned from Highway 67 onto Liveoak Street. damage was $700 to the pickup and $100 to the tractor. No ticket was issued.

Glen Rose enters the regional playoffs after a 50 33 win over Grandview in Burleson. Melba Beck scored 20, Judy Marks 15, and Jeanne McDonough 14 as they advance to the regional meet for the fourth time in recent years. The team travels to Denton for a Saturday 8 45 am tipoff at North Texas State University against Archer City, with Cross Plains meeting Pilot Point at 10 15. The two winners play for the regional title at 7 15 pm Saturday. Score updates will be telephoned to the Reporter office after the game.

Local School Week Planned With Parent Conferences
A State Board of Health representative visited Glen Rose to study spinal meningitis causes and inspect the school lunchroom. The C.S.O. plans Monday activities for Public School Week with teacher conferences, classroom visits, and a 8:00 p.m. business meeting, followed by lunchroom refreshments. Supt McCroskey invites all parents to visit classrooms any day. Adult meals are 50 cents. The Junior Livestock and Homemaking Show will conclude the week's activities Friday with class dismissals.

Local Resident Is Accidental Shooting Victim
Don Bruce of this city is hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in Cleburne after a gunshot wound to his right leg from an accident at the Silica Sand plant. He knocked a .22 pistol from a desk at the plant, the slug entering the right buttock and exiting at the leg bend. Bruce remained hospitalized Wednesday. Visitors at the Tom Morris home Sunday included Mr. and Mrs. Keith Blanton of San Antonio, Miss Doris Morris and Mike Morris of Fort Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Morris of Richardson.

Plans for Somervell Junior Livestock Show And Rodeo
Plans are complete for the 11th annual Junior Livestock Poultry and Homemaking Show at the agricultural building on Highway 67. The event runs 9 a.m. Friday to 9:30 a.m. Saturday March 10–11 with a youth rodeo Friday night featuring Glen Rose and Walnut Springs youths, pony classes, and rodeo events. Entry forms must be returned by Friday noon with parent release. Admission is 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for students.

Mrs N B Gartrell has purchased the Country Kitchen from Mr and Mrs Floyd Reynolds and will operate seven days a week from 6 am to 830 pm with Sunday hours until 230 pm. Walnut Springs Lions Club and Fort Worth Venom Club plan the First Annual Rattlesnake Hunt on March 4 and 5. Venom will be milked for anti snakebite serum for Vietnam servicemen.
