Guinea pig scare at Trades Day sale ends in light fright

A guinea pig bought at the Trades Day sale was found safe after a late night chase when the Jackson family cat disturbed the animal. The episode in J. E. Jackson Jr. home near Somervell occurred around 4 a.m. Tuesday. The family secured the pets and returned to sleep. Also promotes federally insured college loans for those with income under 15 000 dollars and top fourth graduates, inviting inquiries to Cooke County Junior College.

Ball Tract Bought by State for Park

West Texas artist Jack Bryant of Azle will demonstrate oil painting at Oakdale Park Gallery in Glen Rose Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and he will display paintings and bronzes for two weeks. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission bought 959 acres surrounding Dinosaur Valley State Park, including the Roland Ball tract, for 136747.25 dollars from Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Gafford. Deputy Director R. G. Mauermann said more land under contract may be purchased to plan park development soon. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Boyd and family of Lubbock visited in Bosque County.

Danny Thompson son of Mr and Mrs C B Thompson of this city sustained cuts on his left arm and hand and bruises after the 1953 Chevrolet he drove failed to make a curve on FM Road 200 crossed a low water bridge over the Brazos River and overturned landing on its wheels He was alone in the car brought to Marks Eng lish Hospital in a Reynolds Funeral Home ambulance and remained hospitalized Tuesday afternoon reported to be doing fine

Junior Rodeo Entry Blanks Available

Entry blanks for the Glen Rose July 4th Round Up Days junior rodeo are available from Bill Cowan Jerry Smith or Clyde Sexton. Entries must be returned to Smith or Sexton by 7 p.m. July 5. Calf riding limits 20 entrants for both junior and senior events. Area riding clubs invited to a downtown parade at 5 p.m. and the grand entry at the rodeo.

Somervell Society Plans Old-Timers Reunion

Sam Freas president of the Somervell County Historical Society announced a regular meeting at the museum today at 8 a.m. Members are urged to attend as plans will be made to co sponsor the first big annual Somervell County Old Timers Reunion in August.

County Home Demonstration Agent Sue Brown and Mary Wilson co sponsor a cooking school in the high school homemaking department. Seventh and eighth grade girls attend June 24 26 from 1 to noon with sessions for younger grades July 1 3. 4 H members are invited to register with Mrs Brown.

Trades Day Sales Hailed The Best At Stephenville Event

Funeral services were held in Stephenville for Billy Ray Parham 39 of Burleson who died from gunshot wounds in his home. The wife was ruled to have shot him then killed herself with a .22 pistol. The note found supported the conclusion. Parham survived by a daughter and parents and siblings. Graveside rites followed in Nancy Smith Cemetery. The Third Monday Trades Day Sale drew over 2,000 potential buyers. 40 dealers displayed Saturday, 75 Sunday, 58 Monday, netting 117.60 for the Somervell County Historical Museum project. Funds paid for exterior redecoration and electrical wiring at the sale site. Industry-wide attendance included a dealer from Oklahoma City.

Autos Damaged In Wreck Here

Four persons escaped injury in a two car crash on Highway 67 in front of Lane's Fina Station Monday afternoon. Oliver Evanson of this city drove a 1959 Chevrolet left turning to stop at Trades Day Sale and was hit broadside by Gary Phipps of Hico driving a 1960 Ford pickup. Phipps traveled with his mother and younger brother. Evanson was alone. Damage estimated at $350 to the Chevrolet and $125 to the pickup.

Race Track Prepared for July 4 Round-Up Events

Lloyd Locke and Jerry Smith clear and grade a Gibbs tract race site opposite the high school stadium for July 4th Round-Up Days. James Barnard donated a tractor with shredder, Floyd Reynolds to grade with his maintainer. Mule, horse and mule relay, and sheltie and pony races planned for entertainment.

Shipman Is Named VFW Commander

In Glen Rose Memorial Post No. 9180 officers for 1969 70 were elected. Commander Deward Shipman leads the Post with George C Stacey as Senior Vice Commander and Charles E Keller as Junior Vice Commander. The post also voted to erect two safety signs in the Glen Rose area.

A Hico man was arrested by City Marshal Millard Rountree Friday night on a charge of being drunk in a public place. He posted a cash bond and was released Saturday afternoon.
