Five Little League teams named for Optimist summer program

Coach Paul Schuelke announced 45 players forming five Little League teams in the Optimist Club summer program. Teams are sponsored by Wilson Bros Humble Station & Garage, Jackson’s Superette, Crabtree Chevrolet, Corner Drug, and White Auto Store. 10 run rule applies after three innings or 75 minutes. Games last five innings.

Moore family set for missionary post in Uganda

Rev Billy Bob Moore and Aletha Lane Moore of First Baptist Church are named missionaries to Uganda. Aletha Lane Moore is the church’s first foreign missionary in 88 years. They sail June 15 from New York aboard the Queen Mary via Paris, Switzerland and Rome, arriving in Uganda June 30. They will be honored Sunday with services, slides, and a reception after. The couple, Baylor and Southwestern Seminary graduates, have three children.

Mrs. Mary Lee Hague of this city earned a Master of Education degree from Texas Tech in Lubbock. The commencement Saturday past week saw 1,500 graduates receive degrees.

Tax Equalization Boards Meet At Courthouse For County District

Somervell County and Glen Rose Independent School District boards of equalization will meet jointly in the county court room on Monday Tuesday and Thursday nights to study property values. The county aims to set property at 20 percent of its actual value and the school district at 25 percent. Property owners affected will be notified to meet with the boards at a later date, said C. M. Speck Strawn, tax assessor-collector.

Outlaw Leaves Local CPS Post

Outlaw, a lineman for Community Public Service Co. since February, resigned effective May 31 and moved to Louisiana to rejoin D. C. Teague Construction Co., the firm he worked for before. His wife and children will stay here for a time. CPS manager Louie Nickell said the vacancy will be filled soon, with duties covered by district office employees from Clifton in the interim.

CPS Trimming Trees in Area This Week

Workmen for the Davey Tree Expert Co of Tyler are trimming trees in Glen Rose this week. They remove limbs from overhead lines and the transmission network for Community Public Service Co. Ground is cleared and hauled away using the latest equipment for this type of work.

Sign-ups Set Monday for Pre-Schoolers

Pre-school class registration opens Monday at 9:00 AM at the local school building for children entering first grade this fall. Sessions run 9 to 11 AM Tuesday through Friday from June 13 to July 21, with games stories snacks and experiences led by Miss Barbara Ballard and Mrs Karl Booker. Area Gets Second Highway Patrolman

Joe Wilie, a Highway Patrolman from San Angelo, assumed duties in this area on June 1 and now resides in Granbury. He joins Patrolman Rodney Sissom, replacing A. D. Langston who was transferred to the Driver's License Division and moved to Fort Worth last October. Wilie has served with the Highway Patrol for 90 years and is married with two children.

Renovation Works Continue On Bridge Over Brazos River

Sand blasting of the Brazos River bridge at Highway 67 east of town proceeds in preparation for a new paint job. Crews recently completed a similar treatment on the bridge over Squaw Creek along Highway 144, just north of town.

Ladies Softball Teams Set Games Nights Here

Announcement says ladies softball teams will play Tuesday and Friday nights at 8 00 at the local baseball diamond. Admission is 10 cents for adults with children free. Gate receipts cover lights and the concession stand proceeds fund school cheerleaders uniforms.

Former Resident Is Lake Worth Victim Drowns While Swimming

E. F. Buddy Alexander III of Cleburne, a Glen Rose native born October 6, 1946, drowned at Casino Beach Lake Worth Wednesday while swimming from an island to shore with a friend. Funeral rites were at Dillion Funeral Chapel in Cleburne Friday. Survivors include his wife and parents and three sisters. attendance at the Glen Rose funeral included several locals.

Progress at Glen Lake Camp Dining Hall Building

Construction advances on a new dining hall and kitchen at Glen Lake Methodist Camp. Sabine Valley Lumber Co. of Fort Worth builds the native rock structure for 99,666 dollars with 99 workdays allotted. About 10k to 11k more will fund modern kitchen equipment. The project matches the camp’s overall 250,000 dollar expansion, following the superintendent’s residence.

White Church homecoming and reunion set for June 18

The annual White Church community homecoming will be held Sunday June 18 with Reeves and Gardner family reunions. Morning gathering then basket lunches at noon, followed by afternoon singing and visiting. The school library opens its second summer session Monday under Mrs J D Martin with books for all ages and extra volumes on cars and science fiction. Library hours are 9 to 11, Monday through Friday, with Mrs Karl Booker handling requests for grades one through six in the afternoons.
