Park land set for state control in Somervell County
Governor John Connally signed House Bill 1300 after approval by the Legislature. Rep J E Ward and Sen J P Ward sponsored the measure to empower the Parks and Wildlife Commission to acquire about 348 acres, the Winston Whittaker tract, to create a state park with development and maintenance plans. The chamber and SMU archaeology team, led by Professor Bob Slaughter, also proposed a subterranean Track Museum to display dinosaur tracks, contingent on Paluxy River flood control. The land is to be bought by late fall and transferred to the commission.

Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber meets to shape the four day July 1 4 Round-Up with Dan McCarty as general chairman. Parade July 1 led by M G Mac McConal, junior rodeo, Dinosaur Valley tours, art displays, rock and artifact exhibits, church services, gospel singing, Little League games, a pancake breakfast and a late pet parade highlighted by plans for extra features to make it the biggest celebration yet.

Mann Leases Hunter Building for a Year Move Planned
Glen Rose shop owner S. L. Mann announced he leased the former Hunter’s Jewelry & Appliances building for a year. Earl T. Royal financed the new structure, sold to Walter Reeves of Dallas who handed possession to Mann. Mann plans a removal sale with unheard of bargain prices to avoid uncrating merchandise before occupying by July 1.

State Approves Work on FM 205
The Texas Highway Commission approved 3.5 miles of Farm to Market Road work in Somervell County under the 1967 program with an estimated cost of 25000 dollars. District Engineer R W Crook said base and resurfacing on FM 205 from 4.2 miles west of U S 67 West will be supervised by George W Black of Stephenville. Right of way contracts were arranged with Bridges and Davis families and Bonney Jr., leaving three tracts for final negotiation by the Commissioners Court. Mrs Joy Brooks and Donna Eldon visited relatives in New Mexico this week.

Historian seeks Robertson Colony letters from area counties
Dr. Malcolm D. Mc Lean of Texas Christian University will search for historical letters and documents about the Robertson Colony pre San Jacinto. He will work in Glen Rose with E. G. Connally to collect copies from Somervell and 28 other counties to credit ancestors in forthcoming books.

Area Receives Week End Rains
A total of 2.46 inches of moisture was gauged here Sunday and Monday by T. J. Davis, official observer for the U S Weather Bureau. The local gauge showed 2.40 Sunday and .06 Monday for 2.46. Rain began Sunday about 2 p m and fell intermittently to morning. Moisture-hungry pastures soaked up most rainfall, leaving little run-off. Glen Rose totals rise to 12.49 inches year to date. Some county areas saw more or less rainfall this year.

Watershed Association Seeks Access Permits
Plans are being made to secure landowner permission for parties and surveying crews to enter and work on Paluxy River watershed tracts for flood prevention. Volunteers Sought to Operate Museum
The County Historical Society seeks volunteers to keep the local museum open to the public. In its first year the museum drew 4 787 registered guests from nine foreign countries and 33 states plus 231 Texas towns. Volunteers are urged to contact Mrs Wayland G Adams and help on weekends and holidays.
