A five foot rise from a flash flood along the Paluxy River prompted warnings by volunteer firefighters and law enforcement as Eddie McKinnon of Dinosaur Valley State Park aided two boys stranded in the riverbed until the rescue boat arrived. Rescue units commended for protecting park visitors. local improvements noted including building facades and landscaping around the courthouse square.
Weatherford district attorney Alex Tandy lost his sixth suit seeking a recount in the 22nd District Senate race against Tom Creighton. The Second Court of Civil Appeals denied a permanent injunction and dissolved a restraining order, allowing county clerks to destroy May 1 primary ballots per state law.
Gary Marks announces a Dublin ambulance radio system by Trinity Emergency Services Association. The eight county program includes 30 mobil units and 10 base stations linking 14 hospitals, with completion aimed by mid August and plans to add 911 access and telemetered ECGs for faster life saving care.

Heavy rains flooded the Paluxy River watershed Saturday afternoon sending water into Dinosaur Valley State Park. Park Ranger Mike Watts and Eddie McKinnon rescued two boys Chris Crawford nine of Cedar Hill and Randy Vanerwagen fourteen of Dallas from trees as the river rose five feet in minutes. Fire Chief Dwain Sandlin and Laurie Moseley later brought them to safety in a rescue boat with no injuries reported. Dozens of hikers on a rock path were told to seek the scenic overlook until help arrived.
B J Morris was elected chairman of the Somervell County Chapter of the American Red Cross at a Friday meeting at Oakdale Park. New officers include Pam Cox Gordon secretary treasurer and Mrs Maurice Wise water safety chairman with Mrs Ronald Sexton publicity chairman. Retaining posts are Temple Summers services to military families and Mrs Sam Freas disaster chairman. Other board members include Mrs D A Moss and Mrs Leslie Hart. Retiring officers are Gibbs Mrs J M McCroskey secretary treasurer and Mrs Alton May publicity chairman.
Comptroller Bob Bullock announced July rebates totaling $13.4 million to 535 Texas cities and towns. Glen Rose received $1,475.90. year to date rebates reach $23,300.60. A county by county analysis shows Texas gross retail sales at $28.3 billion in Q1 1976, up 13.8 percent from 1975 and 28.2 percent from 1974, with out of state firms contributing $30.6 billion in Q1 1976.
The Glen Rose Roping Club announced a Pee Wee and Junior Rodeo at Dinosaur Arena on Saturday July 31 starting at 8:00. Pee Wee events for grades 1-5 include armadillo sacking and ribbon racing. Junior events for grades 6-9 include steer riding pony riding and steer saddling. Proceeds fund arena improvements. entry blanks available at Locke's Barber Shop starting Tuesday.
