Somervell County Museum shines in Abernathy building
The Somervell County Historical Society runs a small museum in Glen Rose Abernathy building, praised as a valuable asset. From June 30 to July 4, 433 guests from 10 states and 68 Texas cities visited, including visitors from Montana Ohio North Carolina California Louisiana Oklahoma Colorado Indiana New Mexico and Tennessee. A snake incident involving wives of two local doctors ended with Mrs English pinning the reptile in the car with a hoe while Mrs Marks called for help. Dr Marks arrived to assess the situation. 124 Register For Red Cross Swim Lessons At Park
One hundred twenty four youngsters signed up Monday to begin Red Cross swimming and life saving lessons at Oakdale Park pool. Instructor Paul Schuelke, with Mary Parker Cindy May and Mike and Debbie Schuelke, leads daily classes through Friday for two weeks. Beginners 69 in two groups 34 and 35. Class 1 8 a.m. Class 2 8 40. Intermediates 39 in two groups 16 and 23. Class 1 7 30 Class 2 9 15. Juniors/seniors 16 meet at 9 50.

Hancock Named To Glen Rose School Board
Paul Hancock Jr., owner and manager of Corner Drug Store, was named to the Glen Rose Independent School District Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy from John W. Shackelford’s death. He ranked fifth in April election results. Leroy Gibson and Bob Taylor followed him in votes. Gibson was appointed April 3 after James Sparks resigned as city marshal. Mrs. L. C. Mansfield underwent surgery at Memorial Hospital in Cleburne. friends wish her a speedy recovery.

Three Juveniles Placed On Probation Here
Three youths ages 13 and 15 were declared delinquents and placed on probated sentences to the Gatesville boy's reformatory after admitting thefts from local homes. Judges Penn Jackson and Temple Summers heard the case in juvenile court. The probation runs until age 21 with monthly reports and school requirements as conditions.

County voting boxes consolidated in Glen Rose
Somervell County commissioners voted unanimously to consolidate six voting boxes into one in Glen Rose to save costs and help distant voters. The change will take effect at the upcoming special Constitutional Amendment Election in November. County offices seek annual cooperation to name an election judge. Mayor Walter Ernst postponed a city council meeting due to lack of a quorum.

One Hurt in 3 Car Crash on 67 Crossing
Mrs. Billy Claude Payne of Cleburne sustained minor injuries in a three car accident on the Brazos River bridge on Highway 67 at about 1 45 p m Wednesday of last week. She was taken to a Cleburne hospital in a Glen Rose Funeral Home ambulance. Annie Mae Gilliam of Godley driving a 1958 Chevrolet tried to slow for workmen signs but found no brakes and side swiped a 1965 Plymouth driven by Artie C Casey of Garland before hitting Payne's 1962 Ford. Sheriff Speck Strawn said the Gilliam car was a total loss and estimated damage to the station wagon at 200 dollars and 100 dollars to the Ford.
