Texas DPS predicts 34 deaths during 78 hour Independence Day weekend
Col. Wilson E. Speir of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the DPS Statistical Services Bureau projects 34 fatally injured Texans in the 78 hour holiday period from 6 p.m. tonight to midnight Sunday. The agency will run Operation Motorcide with all uniformed patrols on duty to enforce traffic laws and aid motorists as crowds gather for the holiday.

Five Year Old Andy Vineyard Laid To Rest
Master Mark Andrew Andy Vineyard five year old son of Mr and Mrs Arthur E Vineyard of this city was laid to rest in Glen Rose Cemetery Friday after funeral services at 2 p m at Reynolds Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev Jack Mills and Dr R D English. Andy died Wednesday afternoon after open heart surgery in Houston on May 22 returning home June 10 after fifteen days. He was born in Cleburne September 4 1963. Survivors include the parents one brother Bill one sister Becky grandparents Mr and Mrs Amos Steelman of Bovina and Mrs P M Gibson of McLean and great grandmothers Mrs J R Glover of Amarillo and Mrs John Steelman of Bovina. Pallbearers were Charles Putnam Neal Skinner Tommy Crowder J D Martin Leroy Gibson and Doyle Aston.

Oakdale Park hosts junior and senior life saving courses from July 9 to July 25 taught by Paul Schuelke. Financed by the Red Cross, the $4 pool use fee covers weekend swim access. junior ages 11 to 14 and seniors 15 or older may enroll. All other Red Cross swim lessons run July 14 to July 25.

Rites Are Held For Jeff Sirmon
Jeff Sirmon known as Charles Jefferson Sirmon was laid to rest at Rock Creek Cemetery after a 2:30 p.m. service in Reynolds Funeral Chapel. Elder A D Wood officiated. He died in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Born April 25 1898 in DeWitt County he married Bernice Sands in 1925. She died in 1945. Survived by two daughters two sisters two brothers seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Reynolds Funeral Home arranged. Fort Worth visitors spent the weekend with local relatives.

Water impoundment planned for September at DeCordova Bend
Brazos River Authority chief Col. Walter J. Wells announced deliberate water impoundment of the DeCordova Bend Reservoir will start September 15. The lake will fill from flood water only, with low-flow outlets closed that day and spillway gates opened until sufficient downstream floods raise the level. land below the 693 foot elevation from the dam upstream about 31 miles into Parker County will be flooded and livestock must be removed before September 15.
