Old Settlers Reunion Planned for Glen Rose Oakdale Park

July 4th celebration in Glen Rose praised as the biggest in 30 years. Oakdale Park to host an Old Settlers Reunion on Saturday August 2 with former residents and friends invited. A short program, old time music and square dancing planned, plus invitations to be mailed by local volunteers.

Round-Up Big Success Draws Record Crowds

Despite a blistering heat wave the annual July Fourth Round-Up Days in Glen Rose drew record crowds June 3 to 5. Chamber of Commerce sponsors reported top attendance at Little League games street dance and the Old Fiddlers Contest with winners named including Champion Fiddler Bill Gilbert Fort Worth and top age divisions. The downtown show featured parades and pet contests with many local 4-H and Future Farmers of America participants taking blue ribbons.

Red Cross Swim Lessons Set For July At Oakdale Park

Somervell County Red Cross chapter hosts junior and senior lifesaving and swimming courses at Oakdale Park pool starting Wednesday and running to July 25 under Paul Schuelke. July 14 to 25 are the annual lessons with free instruction for county children, plus a $4 pool fee per student. Registration must reach Mrs. Alton May by July 14 at 8 am.

Nancy Adams 23 Buried in Local Service

Funeral services for Nancy Carole Adams 23 daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayland G Adams Sr were held at First Baptist Church with Rev Willis Freeman officiating She died unexpectedly at her grandmother's home Survivors include two sisters a brother and grandparents Burial followed at Rock Creek Cemetery under Reynolds Funeral Home pallbearers included Logan Starnes Jimmy Branham and others.

Hospital Plans Are Continued

Officers of the Glen Rose Industrial Foundation reported final plans for a proposed hospital have been completed and sent to the State Health Department in Austin. After state sanction, the proposal will go to the Small Business Administration in Dallas for final approval before construction. The project will cost about 350000 dollars and be leased to Dr. Roger Marks and Dr. R. D. English on a 25 year lease purchase plan after completion. Also noted is a local family’s travel departure and a visitor staying in their home for a month.

George Norman Reported Critically Ill in Local Hospital

George Norman is reported to be critically ill in Marks English Hospital as the Reporter goes to press on Wednesday morning. He had been in declining health for months and recently returned home from Fort Worth after treatment.
