U. S. Weather Bureau observer T. J. Davis notes 1.97 inches of rain in the past week, bringing January total to 3.37 inches. January lows reached 18 degrees, with highs of 78 degrees earlier in the month. Last January recorded 4.03 inches, 14 inches of snow, and 20 days below freezing versus 12 days so far this year.
Wendell Rozelle was named general chairman of the Lord's Acre Lord's Hour program for 1965 at the First Methodist Church. Steering committee members include Hale Riddle Tom Voss Rev J L Glaze Howard Sego Edwin Conger C D Hatter Jim Turner Gene Simpson Weldon Hart Speck Strawn Earl Jackson H C Polly and Temple Summers. Harvest Festival date to be announced.
Mayor Charles Gibbs said workmen are busy preparing a new and more sanitary city dump ground for the community. It should be ready next week and will be operated in a modern and sanitary manner. Refuse will be dumped in prepared ditches and covered when full. The old grounds will be closed and residents urged to use the new facilities beyond the present dump with guiding signs.
Tickets are on sale for the All-Sports banquet honoring Glen Rose school athletes on February 11 at 7 p.m. at Glen Lake Methodist Camp. Sponsored by the Optimist Club with David McWilliams as speaker. Tickets from Optimist Club members cost $1.50 for adults and $1 for students.
Somervell County Judge and Mrs. Temple Summers were in Austin Tuesday to attend the inaugural ceremonies and related events marking the day.

Chuck Gibbs arrived today to spend the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas Gibbs and family. He will return to the University of Houston to resume his studies Sunday evening.
Tax Collector Speck Strawn reported 248 poll taxes sold by Tuesday afternoon with a gain of 74 from the prior week. The office will stay open until 5 p.m. Saturday January 30, the last day to purchase poll taxes to be eligible to vote next year.
An illness described as Johnson Flu or Doctor's Disease led to the temporary closure of local schools for two days. Superintendent J M McCroskey reported eighty absences by noon Monday and rising illness as classes ended early, while adults also fell ill.
State Representative J E Ward of the 52nd District covering Johnson Somervell and Bosque Counties was named to four committees for the new session. He joins the appropriations panel where he previously served, chairs the Enrolled Bills Committee and serves on Claims and Acclamation and the Counties Committee overseeing county laws.
Jim Rushing of the Central Boxing Club won the Fort Worth Golden Gloves novice middleweight title sponsored by Glen Rose Optimist Club and coached by Danny Smith. Leroy Boyd fell in the meet’s semi finals. local boxers enter Cleburne tourney with Ricky West Charlie Crisp Gary Mann and Leroy Boyd scheduled Thursday to Saturday.

Mr and Mrs Glen Wiginton announce the birth of a son named William Floyd in a Cleburne hospital on January 16. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs M F Wiginton of Grandview and Mr and Mrs W E Thetford of Mansfield.
The Senior Class hosts a bake and rummage sale in the Snyder building next to White Auto Store starting at 8 30 a m to 5 30 p m. The public is invited to attend and purchase a variety of items.
Mr and Mrs Dawson Holden attended the funeral of Ole H Clemmer in Nash after his death from complications following an operation and heart attack in Texarkana. The service was at Nash Methodist Church with burial at Chapelwood Cemetery. Clemmer, born December 18 1894 in Loudon Tennessee, leaves a widow two sons Owen and Robert a daughter Ludelia and six grandchildren.
Ronell Osborn, uncle of Cecil Wood, was moved from Marks English Hospital to Memorial Hospital in Cleburne for an emergency appendectomy Sunday night. His son and wife from Austin were summoned. Reports Monday said he was in satisfactory condition after the operation.
Mrs Fredda Roberts and her mother Mrs J E Ward of this city return from St Louis Mo where Mrs Roberts underwent six operations for eye surgery Representative Ward spent the weekend in Fort Worth and returned to Austin.
Rev Dutch Mann announces Cottonwood Baptist Church will hold an all day event after Sunday services with a community basket lunch and an afternoon of singing. Everyone is invited to attend both services and the meal.
Lester J. Cappleman explains a $2,500 15 year loan to a Long Branch Texas family of ten. The aid, part of 11 nationwide loans, covers mortgage refinance, livestock, land work, and operating costs to raise income and living standards. Eligibility requires rural residence, low income, no other credit, and potential success.
John T. Dyson 97, father of Mrs. Robert Koch of this city, was found dead at his Gatesville home Monday night. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at King with interment there. Attending from Glen Rose were Mr. and Mrs. Koch, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Pollock, and Gloria and Mrs. C. E. Whitt. The deceased was a brother in law of Mrs. Leonard.
R G Burwell longtime district agricultural agent at Stephenville since 1947 will retire February 1. An appreciation program Sunday January 31 at 3 p m will honor him at the Tarleton State College lunchroom in Stephenville. Burwell a Mississippi native has 40 years as a professional agriculturalist in Texas beginning as a vocational agriculture teacher at Santa Rosa then serving as quarantine inspector for the Department of Agriculture and joining the county agent program in 1930.
Mrs. O. Z. Lemens has been hospitalized in a Stephenville hospital the past week. Mrs. Charles West was released from Memorial Hospital in Cleburne Friday of last week where she was hospitalized several days.
