Somervell court to tap records shows 174 poll taxes paid and one exemption issued, compared with 77 paid and 222 exemptions last year. With a spring election year underway Texas residents are urged to pay poll taxes before the deadline Sunday in nine days and be ready to vote.
The Community School Organization conducted its monthly meeting with vice president Mrs. Glen O Neal presiding in president Bob Taylor's absence. Minutes were read and plans discussed for year projects including lockers for Junior High and playground equipment for elementary, though no votes were taken. The Golden Tiger Band led by Gene Conway performed and Mrs. Boyce Gatewood’s sixth grade won the room count.

J. M. McCroskey, superintendent, announces the census of pre school age children in the Glen Ross School District is in progress. Parents of children born on or before September 1, 1959 who have not been contacted should pick up census blanks at the high school building office soon. Deadline to enumerate pre school students is January 31.

The school lunch week of January twenty five through twenty nine lists daily meals in the lunch room. Monday offers salmon croquettes with sides and milk. Tuesday features Spanish rice and beans. Wednesday includes ham salad and vegetables. Thursday serves barbequed franks with potatoes and greens. Friday presents roast beef with peas and corn.

County records show 47 deaths and 14 births in 1964 with 60 marriage licenses issued. Officials note some births occurred outside the county and aren’t reflected in local records, affecting true figures.
FFA Instructor Bill Cowan announced the boxing tournament scheduled for Saturday night is postponed owing to the Golden Gloves Tournament in Fort Worth where a Glen Rose boxer remains in the semi finals. The new date will be announced later.
Eight youths from Dallas were arrested in Cleburne on Saturday morning for vandalism at the Glen Rose Motel. Three teens paid fines totaling 76.50 in Justice Court, while five adults were released after agreeing to replace a broken dresser. The Somervell County Historical Society plans a motor tour along the Paluxy River on Saturday Jan 23 with a 9:30 a.m. session in the County Court room and a picnic lunch.
Two armed men abducted $16,350 from Iredell State Bank about 9 45 am Wednesday then fled toward Acton Hood County before being captured by Cleburne Highway Patrolmen. Johnny Lee Hill 22 and William Dale Phillips of Fort Worth were arrested with about 500 recovered. Hill is a former Nemo area resident and jail break artist with prior burglaries and escapes.
The basketball games scheduled for Friday have been moved to Thursday night in the local gym. The change allows coaches Paul Schuelker and Weldon Hart to attend the Kodak Winter Coaching Clinic in Feriday tonight and tomorrow.
A Cub Pack meeting is set for Tuesday night January 26 at 7 30 in the agriculture building. Cubs may earn Bob tat Pins if a parent or guardian attends. The pack will present a short skit and everyone is invited.
Announcement this week invites all to a musical at Paluxy Community Center on Saturday night January 23. Organizers extend a cordial invitation to attend.
Leroy Boyd of the Glen Rose Boxing Club sponsored by the Optimist Club and coached by Danny Smith will fight Lloyd Choate of Mansfield in the lightweight semis in Fort Worth Friday night. Other local entrants Gary Man Ricky West and Calvin Boyd lost their Monday night bouts.
Lynn O'Neal was elected Chief of the Glen Rose Fire Department at a regular meeting last week with officers Leon West as assistant chief Leroy Gibson as secretary Gilbert Daniel as fire marshal and Ed Jameson as treasurer Captain No 1 Jim Teague and Captain No 2 Clyde Seton were named. A committee led by Hershel Simmons with Zack Evans Leroy Gibson and Gilbert Daniel will gather information on a new truck for Somervell County and Evans will serve as secretary. The department seeks new members as vacancies exist and holds meetings on the second and fourth Mondays each month. The March of Dimes banquet details were postponed The date will be announced later.
Mrs. Neva Lane is reported to be recovering satisfactorily after surgery at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth on Monday. Present with her were Mrs. Ruby Lane Mrs. D A Moss and Mrs. Paul Hancock.
