Somervell County Sheriff Paul Bone said 310 poll taxes have been paid by voters as of January 24. January 25 Jaycees discussed a Poll-Tax Booth at First National Bank for January 27. The sheriff will stay open until midnight January 31 for late payments ahead of a busy election year.
Public thanks from hospital staff to Somervell County residents especially Nemo area for gifts of electrical appliances and other items during a day without natural gas. Doctors Marks and English acknowledge the help and acknowledge the thoughtfulness at the hospital.
Miss Sonja Ruth Epps and James Gilbert Iles wed at 4 p.m. January 14 in the groom's brother Glenn Iles home in Granbury. Rev. Billy Doddson officiated. Attendants included sister of the bride as matron of honor and Mr Charles Brieder as best man. Guests were family and friends. The couple plans future residence.
Col. Homer Garrison Jr of the Texas Department of Public Safety warns motorists to secure their 1962 inspection stickers before the April 15 deadline. He notes only about a quarter of vehicles have been inspected, predicting long lines as the deadline nears, and cites fewer defects and overall safer roads this year.
Two new members were accepted at the Glen Rose Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting last Monday night. Ben Mieth Jr and John Goldsmith joined the roster, bringing total membership to 20.
Randall Reeves and George Finley of Cleburne were injured Saturday night when their pickup struck a cow on Highway 67 near the Cosden Station at about 7 30. Finley was hospitalized at Marks English Hospital in Glen Rose with injuries and bruises. Reeves and Finley work for Reeves Floor Covering Co. in Cleburne.
The Optimist sponsored All-Sports Banquet drew nearly two hundred attendees at Glen Lake Methodist Camp on January 18, 1962. Rev. John Basham hosted with Tom Voss welcoming participants and David Barclay giving the response.
Corner Drug hires Paul Hancock of Borger Texas as next pharmacist due to Hoss Moss illness. Hancock formerly worked at H and W Pharmacy in Borger and will reside in the former George Day home with his wife and two children Jerry eight Lori Beth eighteen months. Hancock is nephew of Ann Moss Ruby Lane and Lennie Lane.
On Wednesday January 24 at the Marks-English Hospital the roster included Mrs. R. M. Loper Mrs. W. J. Fairman Granbury Lonnie West Mrs. Mattie Allen Mrs. Majesta Livingston B. I. Martin Mrs. Ida Sisson Nelda Noack.
Ben Sudderth of Comanche a former Texas legislator announces candidacy for State Senator from the 12th District comprising Bosque Comanche Coryell Ellis Hill Erath Hamilton Hood Johnson and Somervell counties. He notes his farm roots Brown County birth Howard Payne College UT Law degree and prior service in the House during the 55th and 56th sessions Dallas. He describes a vigorous campaign plan and lists community leadership roles including Comanche County Chamber of Commerce vice president Jaycees Lions Club Polio Foundation and local library trustees.
Isaac Monroe Gambrell aged 82 of Somervell County died Sunday in a Cle burne hospital. He had lived in Cleburne 21 years and was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held January 23 at 2 p.m. at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel. Survivors include his wife four sons and five daughters. Burial in White Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons.
The 1962 Feed Grain Program mirrors 1961 with price support for eligible growers. To qualify, farmers must cut their feed grain base by 20 percent. Sign-up runs February 5 through March 5 for corn and grain sorghum, with 1959 or 1960 sweet sorghum for silage to be reported promptly.

Miss Joyce McGee became the bride of Tommy Price Peden Jr on January 9 1962 at First Baptist Church Eastland Texas. Rev Haston Brewer officiated. The couple will reside in Wichita Falls where he will attend Midwestern University.
A cottage in Milling Park suffered about 1000 dollars in damage when a morning fire broke out around 10 45. Monday. Fire trucks arrived and saved much of the structure. The home owned by Republic National Life Insurance Co of Dallas was rented by Porter Newman. Freezing temperatures hampered firefighting as the low 20s hindered crews.
