The Wesleyan Service Guild met on Tuesday January 8 at the Milam home with co hosts Mrs. Milam and Mrs. Esther Lilly. Jerre Deason was elected vice president to fill the unexpired term. Five new members joined and two visitors attended the gathering.
Beginning in 1957 58 the Glen Rose Independent School District requires entering students to show up to date smallpox diphtheria whooping cough and lockjaw immunizations plus booster dates. A complete physical within two weeks of opening is required and records filed on a health form. A physician’s permit is needed to return after illness longer than three days. Free services may be provided if families cannot afford them.
Mr and Mrs George Mears announce the birth of a daughter, Ethel Mae, at Cleburne Memorial Hospital on January 10 at 7 45 a m She weighed seven pounds at birth The mother is Pauline Blackwell former Mrs Mears The grandparents are Mr and Mrs Arthur Blackwell The couple also has a son Charles age 14 months
Congressman Jim Wright will present a special television report on the Administration's Middle East plan. He discusses the proposal with Assistant Secretary of State Robert C. Hill in a filmed interview to be shown at 4 p.m. Saturday on WBAP TV Channel 5 in Fort Worth.
Mr and Mrs J N Smiley of Lubbock purchased the J O Pruitt farm in the White Church community known as the old Muse farm. A Smiley relative will reside on the property.

Dr Finis E Engleman Connecticut State Commissioner addressed the gathering.
A fire of undetermined origin tore through the Jack Stacy Grocery and Service Station Sunday night. Stacy and family lived in the rear. Jack narrowly reached the scene as smoke and flames engulfed the ceiling. Wife notified him, blaze sped to total loss. building owned by Vance Wieving and leased to Stacy. Estimated loss about 15000 including building, stock, and fixtures. Insurance limited to Stacy’s stock. home furniture not insured. Firefighters arrived within two minutes but could not save the frame structure.
Congressman Jim Wright and 18 Texas lawmakers pitched the Texas Plan to Congress to aid farmers and ranchers. The bill would provide protein feeds and hay, with a deferred grazing program to protect rangeland, and include an emergency seed program for drought stricken dirt farmers in Somervell County.
Temperatures dropped as a norther moved in Sunday with sub freezing morning conditions. The coldest point came Thursday at 14 degrees, with a gradual warm up anticipated over the weekend.
