Woman Dies While Visiting Here
Esther Endsley aged 79 was found dead in bed at the Jim Clay home Wednesday morning. Justice of Peace C M Tidwell ruled death from natural causes. She arrived Sunday for a visit and the body was sent to Waco for burial.

Glen Rose Schools invite the public to an open house at Leach Gymnasium this Friday January 12. The building opens at 6 45 with a 7 00 presentation of the high school teams followed by a tour of dressing rooms and a 30 minute scrimmage between Glen Rose girls and Baylor University PE department. The Glen Rose Volunteer Fire Department elected officers for 1962 at its first meeting of the year. Lefty O Neal was reelected Fire Chief, Buzz Evans Assistant Chief, Leroy Gibson secretary, Kenneth Gibson treasurer, Charles Gibbs reporter, Gene Linch Captain Unit No 1, Carl Simmons Captain Unit No 2. The group discussed improving emergency communications and the potential installation of citizen band radios in the fire truck and another vehicle. If feasible, they will request radios from the City Council and county residents through the Commissioners Court to fund protection. The two trucks are old, with the newest bought by county bond funds.

Somervell County Commissioners Meet Jan 8 1962
The Somervell County Commissioners Court met January 8 with all members present led by County Judge Temple Summers. Bills and last meeting minutes were approved. The treasurer's quarterly report was approved. They renewed the sand and gravel pit permit for 1962 and ordered jail repairs per Grand Jury recommendations. The county treasurer's commission was cut from 2 to 11-2 percent starting January 1 1962. All other officials retain 1961 fees for 1962. Barnett and Hitt voted Aye Wirt also Aye Norman voted No. The meeting adjourned.

Glen Rose Youths Go On Spree
Three Glen Rose schoolboys aged 14 and 15 ran away Friday taking part in a six county spree. They confessed to stealing three vehicles including a 1954 Chevrolet and a pick-up and faced burglary charges. They were held for hearings before Judge Penn Jackson and Juvenile Judge in Somervell County with County Attorney E J Elam prosecuting. Authorities sought information on vandalism and burglaries in Cleburne Morgan Meridian and Eddy.

Funeral services for E D Newsom in Cresent Hill Church of Christ
Funeral services were held for E D Newsom 58 of Route 1 Ropesville at 2 p m in the Cresent Hill Church of Christ. Officiating were Herman Johnson and Garnie Atkinson. Burial followed at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Newsom died after a week of illness in Brownfield General Hospital. He moved from Shallowater in 1934 and farmed Gomez community until 1950. Survivors include his widow three sons Weston Newsom and five daughters plus six grandchildren and a brother and six sisters.
