Specialist 2C Loyd D. Ince son of Mr and Mrs Walter Ince completed a 25 week field radio repair course at the Army Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia. The training covered radio transmitters receivers and testing equipment. Ince entered the Army in 1948 and did basic training at Fort Chaffee Arkansas.
A suspect was nabbed by Fort Worth police late Wednesday afternoon after the Tuesday night robbery of two service stations. Cigarettes a typewriter and other goods were found in the suspect’s car, a stolen 1956 model.
South Texas employers were reminded of 1957 tax rate changes under the FICA and FUTA. New FICA rates on wages from January 1, 1957 are 2 1 4 percent for both employers and employees, totaling 4 1 2 percent. FUTA requires Form 940 by January 31, 1957 for employers with four or more employees on at least one day in each 20 weeks of 1956, down from eight employees for prior filing.
Thieves struck Magnolia Station and Humble Station on Highway 67 Tuesday night, stealing multiple cartons of cigarettes and a portable typewriter at Magnolia between 10 pm and 7 am, and cigarettes along with razor blades at Humble between 7 pm and 6:45 am.

Judy Gail Flanary, born at Marks-English Hospital on December 28, arrives to live with Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Flanary. She is described as Mark’s baby sister with 1 percent heritage noted. Grandparents listed as Earl Flanary and Jack Rives.
Mrs. Sallie Woodard passed away about 5 a.m. in Cleburne Memorial Hospital. Glen Rose Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sheriff Bone and Commissioners Wirling Norman were sworn in by County Judge A. L. Hooker. George A. Day was also sworn in as County Attorney. Day has passed the Texas Bar exam and will join duties after finishing at Texas University Law School in mid January. he is from Brownwood.
At a City Council meeting last Thursday night Jodie Reynolds was named City Marshal and nightwatch to succeed Paul Bone who became Somervell County Sheriff Tuesday.
E. W. McCoy and E. P. Jones are listed as satisfactory. Mrs. Mary Sullivan shows slow improvement. A. Noland is noted as satisfactory in Walnut Springs care.
Mr and Mrs John Goldsmith express gratitude to all who aided them after the accident six months ago. They thank the community for thoughtful support and blessings.
Lewis P Merrill of Midlothian attended the Buck Lilly funeral in Glen Rose on Wednesday to pay respects.
January 12 designated Blue Crutch Day in Somervell County. Women will sell miniature blue crutches to raise funds for the March of Dimes and to promote the Salk vaccine. Mrs. R. L. Flippin leads the fundraising effort for a year with the theme Lets finish the job.
West Manufacturing Company to relocate from Glen Rose to Stephenville after negotiations with the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce and the Stephenville Industrial Foundation. About $10,000 raised locally to finance the move. payroll estimated at $85,000 annually. The firm will occupy a 75 by 100 foot building, completion in about 60 days. Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce thanked the firm for its years of operation and support.
Mrs Mattie Ellen Winter Presley 78 died December 20 after a long illness at her home. Born March 26 1878 in Melrose Iowa she was a Church of Christ member over 60 years. Funeral held December 21 at 1 p m at the Church of Christ with C A Buchanan officiating. Burial in Ward cemetery near Corsicana. Survived by husband Earnest Presley four daughters and 7 grandchildren plus 6 great grandchildren two sisters and several in-laws and relatives. Pallbearers included grandsons Billy Anderson James Eskew Marvin Sparks W B Patterson I B Webb Olla Presley.

Buck Lilly longtime resident of Glen Rose died at his home Tuesday January 1 after months of illness. Born August 22 1870 in Baxter County Arkansas he moved to Johnson County at age eight and to Glen Rose in 1889. He was a farmer and served as deputy sheriff of Somervell County. Services held at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with Rev George Greebon. Interment Squaw Creek Cemetery. Survivors include sisters Cora Lilly Lora Lilly and Mrs John Goldsmith all of Glen Rose and an aunt Mrs Mary Caroline Arnold of Pearsol plus many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers listed.
Mrs. C. B. McAdams, 81, died at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston last Friday following serious burns. Funeral arrangements handled by Bristol Funeral Home with interment at Boggy Cemetery near Cranfill Gap. Survived by two sons W. B. McAdams and Jack McAdams, four daughters Brose Oglesby John Dyson C Saunders J W Leonard, 26 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
Dr A B Currie 78 a former Somervell County resident died at his Groveton Texas home on Friday December 28 He was born February 10 1878 in Somervell County He practiced medicine at Rainbow Services were held at Groveton Baptist Church with graveside rites at Squaw Creek cemetery Survivors include wife Mattie Currie son Hollis Connor sister Betty Currie of Glen Rose several nephews including Lee Currie of Rainbow nieces and a grandchild and two great grandchildren He belonged to Glen Rose Masonic Lodge and was believed to have the longest continuous lodge membership in the area
