Glen Rose Public Schools band director Joe Foster calls all students who were in band last year in grades seven through twelve to report Monday in the band hall at 9 30 a m. He aims to prepare for the football season and urges attendance. Beginning band students meet Friday August 28.
An exchange paper clips a section noting the preacher’s contradictions from age to conduct and public behavior. Also included are satirical Lapete predictions on baseball, 1960 presidential race, and local political interest. A plaque presentation honors Texas Agriculture Teachers Association President H. G. Barber at a Fort Worth breakfast with about 1000 attendees.
A lawn party on the Ward estate celebrated the recent marriage of Dr. and Mrs. Billy Ward. About 125 guests attended with out of town visitors from Fort Worth Cleburne Marlin and Marlin. Hosts Mrs and Mr Ward along with a large receiving line and elegant serving setup hosted the event.
Miss Brends Stewart daughter of Mr and Mrs M D Stewart becomes engaged to Walter Maynard son of Mr and Mrs Bill Maynard of Glen Rose Both graduates of Glen Rose High School Miss Stewart attends Commercial College in Fort Worth while Mr Maynard works for Holland Page Construction Co in Killen
Funeral services were held Wednesday August 12 in Abilene for Mrs Frances Mabel Montgomery Hardesty widow of Rev John P Hardesty who died May 9. She taught school here in the early 1900s and her husband preached his first pastorate here in 1901.
Glen Rose resident Mrs Ora Stanfield Rife a 72 year old former telephone worker and Christian Scientist shares a life shaped by years of widowhood. She learned ham radio over two years earning a novice license and plans a general exam in Dallas to operate power equipment and talk worldwide.
Bidders are invited to submit bids for lunchroom garbage services by Tuesday August 25 during the regular board meeting night.
The school directs all pupils in grades 1 through 8 to report to specified buildings and floors based on grade level and roll lists. First to third grades are listed with teacher assignments, while grades 4 to 8 report to the Junior High Building with floor allocations and special reporting requirements for students new to Glen Rose.
Joe Bowlin thanks Glen Rose residents for assistance after a collision near the town. He credits the Palaxy River area hospital staff and Dr Marks for saving his daughter Janet and notes Dr Irvine's kind gesture returning the horse to Fort Worth. Also mentions Mrs Sinclair’s surgery in Cleburne Memorial Hospital and Spany Orr’s three year Tokyo assignment.
The Somervell Home Demonstration annual camp at the YWCA convened August 17 with 48 registered and about 100 attending stunts. Officers elected include camp chairman Mrs R L Flippin and secretary treasurer Mrs Seraphie Riddle. sheriff Mrs Vide la Honeycutt and deputy Mrs Lera Mae Robertson. Activities featured swimming, skits by Buck Creek Glen Rose and Georges Creek, readings by Mrs Hewlett and a devotional by Mrs Ike Hargrove, ending with bedtime rounds and a 7 am breakfast before returning home.
Mr and Mrs M H McCarty of Port Lavaca have purchased the Sycamore Grove Motel and Grocery and have moved there. The McCartys include sons Milton Earl 19 Richard Dale 10 Michael Ray 5 and daughter Lola Mae 17.
Glen Rose Tigers list 1959 schedule with opponents and venues for nine games plus an open date. Notable entries include Granbury Hamilton Dublin Alvarado Meridian Whitney Midway Connally Itasca Clifton and district 21 A play.
Evangelist duo W. R. Averitt and wife conduct revival services every evening at 7 30. Also note reserve seat tickets sold at Glen Rose Cafe covering five home games for six dollars. Hospital bed available now through Judge Summers at the courthouse or Joe Smith.
