Smith Reunion at Earps Park

The pavilion at Earps Park hosted over 200 descendants and friends of the late W. B. Smith last Sunday. D. M. Boone, a descendant, helped host. Visitors traveled from California, Minnesota and other states, including Lon McAllister from Minnesota. A noon barbecue, sing‑along and games filled the afternoon.

Conservation District reports soil inventory and pasture notes

The Somervell County Soil Conservation District completes a statewide reviewed soil inventory detailing depth texture permeability and slope and their production capabilities. Bermuda pastures show increased cover but weeds limit forage. a Cladwell shredder aids rough pastures, with Howard Brawley as custodian. Ponds for livestock water and farm fish ponds were staked for Dawson Holden and J. T. Dugger.

Somervell County Court Sets Budget Hearing and Duels Over Funds

The August 10 1959 Commissioners Court presided by County Judge Temple Summers approves minutes and bills. D R Crisp named election judge for precinct 4 as a budget hearing for 1960 is set for September 15 and published in the Glen Rose Reporter. The court votes to return 5742 62 to be used for building and maintaining lateral roads and approves travel pay for the sheriff and a clerk’s assistant. It also supports hiring a County Home Demonstration Agent at 900 salary and 150 travel, assigns an office, and reallocates funds 1500 1000 500 to the General Fund. Hitt opposed. The county declines to pay for an extension phone in the County Attorney’s office. Adjourned.
