Gladewater Arts and Crafts Festival Moves Into Weekend
The second annual festival opens and runs until dusk Sunday on the Broadway School campus. Volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce women’s division Beta Sigma Phi Jaycees City of Gladewater school personnel and Boy Scouts assist as artists demonstrate pottery glass blowing sand painting and quilting while attendees browse hundreds of paintings and crafts under oak trees and green grass.

Dr. John Mackey of Gladewater Dies at 50
Dr. John Mackey, a Gladewater dentist and Union Grove native, died after a lengthy illness. Rosary was held Friday and a funeral Mass Saturday at Stone Chapel with burial in Union Grove Cemetery. He was born July 27, 1925, served in WWII, and practiced on East Upshur until retirement. Surviving family includes two daughters Teresa and Marcia, two sons Dennis and Jerry, and three sisters.

Showalter rites set on Monday
Funeral services for Harry Glenn Showalter of Gladewater will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel. Interment follows in Memorial Park. He died Friday at 2 p.m. after an extended illness, age 86. Born December 4, 1888 in Hancock County Ohio, he moved to Gladewater during the oil boom and was a WWI veteran. Survivors include two nieces Pauline Osberger and Phyllis Range and two nephews Paul Showalter and Floyd Hardwick.
