Mrs. Hallie Ricks Rites Held at First Baptist Church

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Mrs. Hallie Ricks 79 of Gladewater born February 28 1894 in Titus County and died Sunday in Municipal Hospital after a brief illness. She leaves four sons two daughters two brothers 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Burial followed at Gladewater Memorial Park with pallbearers being grandsons.

Kiwanis installs new officers in Gladewater banquet

Frank Pence was named president of the Gladewater Kiwanis Club at a Tuesday night banquet at the St. Clair Restaurant. New officers include Floyd as vice president, Dishman as vice president, Reed as secretary treasurer, and Stan Midler as master of ceremonies and director. Dinner guests from nearby clubs and district leaders praised the club’s work, including a $250 scholarship, blood pool drive, and popcorn sales.

Dr. Morrison Leads Gregg Art Guild In Fourth Term

The Gregg Art Guild begins its fiscal year headed by Dr. David G. Morrison, serving his fourth term as president. The Northeast Texas group includes over 50 artists and collectors, with Kilgore College’s Gilbert Andries presenting the first program. Morrison, a dentist, discusses balancing art with work and notes watercolor fascination, family ties, and awards including the Silver Beaver.

Canvass Cancels Election In Union Grove District

Union Grove Independent School District board states the September 8 bond vote on a 280000 improvement bond ended 156 for and 156 against with a tie in the property owner box and a separate non property owner tally of 21 for and 11 against. Officials cite counting confusion and announce a new election will be scheduled with more help. no date set.

Tyler Rose Festival blooms from 20 million bushes

Tyler hosts the 36th annual Rose Festival October 18 21 drawing blooms from more than 20 million field grown roses. Festival events include parades luncheons coronation Fiesta Night Queen's Ball and dances. The industry is a $7 million annual business with local growers expanding retail sales and storage preserved bushes.

Funeral services for William E. Bonner held in Gladewater

William E. Bonner 74 of 1402 Gay Avenue died Saturday in Longview after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home chapel with burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. Survivors include his widow Ruby Bonner, son Gerald Bonner, brothers Virgil Clyde and Arthur Bonner, sister Clara Bond, and two granddaughters Deborah and Dee Dee Bonner. Pallbearers were Elmer Wood Herbert Taylor Al Crary W B Smith Pete Broadwater and C W Fuqua.

SWEPCO Reports Progress in IBEW Strike Talks

John E. Edgar SWEPCO public information director says some progress has been made in strike negotiations with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. About 620 IBEW members walked out nearly three weeks ago, the first strike in SWEPCO's history. Negotiations resumed last Friday after a three week break, with plant watch engineers' status among the disputed points.
