The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce endorsed action by Hospital Administrator Bill Wagner the hospital board and medical staff to organize a committee seeking more doctors for Gladewater. Royce Ford spoke on an ad sponsorship. about 400 attended the Tennis and Swim Club open house. profits fund chairs for the Chamber building. Plans for the Christmas parade and World Wide Church of God Festival Oct 10 18 were noted. Student Government Day was proposed.

Union Grove bond passes by nine votes
Union Grove Independent School District voters approved a $280,000 bond by an unofficial margin of 138 in favor and 129 against. Superintendent R. A. Cooper reported the result and said the canvass will occur at the next school board meeting on Monday, Sept. 17. The bond funds will finance physical improvements and expanded facilities at the 90 year old school.

Gladewater Man Dies After Gladewood Shooting
Jack Day Baggett, 43, died from a chest wound after a Tuesday evening shooting. Police say he was struck once by a .22 caliber pistol and arrived at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview at 11 p.m. His address is listed as Route 1 Box 93 A in Gladewater.

Harold F. Richardson 63 Dies After Sudden Illness
Harold F. Richardson 63 of Gladewater died Monday in a Tyler hospital after a sudden illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Grace Hill Cemetery Longview. Survivors include his widow Velma, two sisters Helen Curtis Tulsa and Grace Darvie Fort Collins, his mother Sue Richardson Gladewater, and several nieces and nephews. He worked in oil before becoming an independent operator and helped buy Gregg Refinery with C. R. Starnes et al. He was a Tulsa University graduate and attended the New Mexico Military Institute.
