Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Wardie W Elkins of Gladewater

Services for 68 year old Mrs Wardie W Elkins were conducted at Malcom Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. She died Thursday at Municipal Hospital after a long illness. Survivors include her widower E M Elkins and two sons Hubert and Lloyd Elkins, six grandchildren, and four sisters. The Rev Conrad Winborn officiated.

Committee named in doctor search for Gladewater

A 22 member physician recruitment committee was named by Gladewater Municipal Hospital to attract new doctors. Dr S M Thomas chairs the board with hospital staff and nine representatives from various fields. A 7 am Tuesday breakfast in the hospital dining room will outline plans to address the local doctor shortage and maternity care needs.

Parks and Wildlife launches district I E offices in Texas

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announces 11 district Information and Education Division offices. Executive director Clayton T. Garrison says officers will bring conservation messages to residents in cities and metropolitan areas and meet the public in recreation areas to influence attitudes toward natural resources.

City Receives New 8 750 Ambulance For Emergency Care

The city unveiled a new five seat van type ambulance costing 8750 dollars. It seats four adults and a child, features two way communications, oxygen and aspirator equipment, inflatable splints and back boards. Fire Marshal Harold Potts notes it will speed patient treatment and that nine regular and several volunteer firefighters are trained to operate it.
