Gladewater Construction Soars Past 1968 Totals in 9 Months

Gladewater construction costs for January through September 1969 reached 1 061 815 dollars, beating 1968's total of 627 367 dollars. Harold Potts, fire chief and building inspector, notes $751 500 in new commercial projects in the first nine months, contributing to the milestone.

Gladewater High Sets Next Year Grid Schedule

Gladewater High School will join District 8-AAA in the 1969-70 realignment announced by Supt Roy Johnson after a Henderson meeting. The team will play 10 football games within a 10-school district and have one non district game.

Charges Filed In Death Of Gladewater Man

A murder with a vehicle charge is filed against Herman Earnest Russell Hawkins after a Monday accident near Highway 80 and Dean Street that killed 72 year old Barney Richard Murray. Russell posted a 2000 bond and the victim died at City Hospital. Funeral services were held at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with burial at West Mountain Cemetery. Murray, WWI veteran, had lived in Gladewater four years and is survived by a sister and three children.

Third District Legion Auxiliary Convene In Gladewater

Members of the Third District American Legion and Auxiliary met at the Gladewater Legion Hut for an all day session. Speakers included Ralph Prince Bob McKay and Ralph Dickson with Murray C. Marie and Mary Lahie presiding. Fifty year veterans were recognized and remarks emphasized law and order and public service.

City to assume ambulance service administration from hospital board

The city council discussed the Municipal Hospital Authority plan to return administrative control of the ambulance service in March next year. An audit showed a net loss of 3330.48 dollars over 19 months while grossing 15014.59 dollars. The council also approved a $1000 land sale behind the Pacific Street fire substation and a $20000 Caterpillar crawler-loader purchase from Darr Equipment.
