Two-Car Collision Injures Gladewater Residents
Mrs Sharon Smallwood and Elizabeth Smallwood both of Gladewater were admitted to Roy H Laird Memorial Hospital after a two car crash at SH 135 and Gladewater Street at 8 21 p m Walter J Procell of Kilgore was treated and released Procell drove a 1968 Ford pickup while Mrs Smallwood drove a 1969 Volkswagen with about 1500 in damage and Procell 750 in damage. the accident injuries include a one year old and the drivers.

W. C. Echols Dies After Long Illness
W C Echols 62 a Glade water area resident most of his life died Thursday in a local nursing home following a lengthy illness. He was a retired oilfield worker. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 00 p m in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev J W Best officiating. Burial was in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born January 7 1907 in Gilmer he is survived by one son William Echols Gladewater two daughters Mrs Johnny Curry Longview Miss Elizabeth Echols Houston and one sister Mrs J A Watson Gladewater

Shepperd Awarded Texas Historic Preservation Honor
John Ben Shepperd former Texas secretary of state and attorney general received the 1969 Ruth Lester Award for Meritorious Service in Historic Preservation. The honor cited his RAMPS program leadership and eight preservation bills, plus the 5000th official marker approval for Rocking Chair Ranch Collingsworth County.

Gladewater Arms Custodial Home opens with an open house Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at 300 N. Money Street near Memorial Baptist Church. The 80 bed facility, owned by Great Southwestern Medical Centers Inc of San Antonio, will serve ambulatory and semi ambulatory elderly residents and will not accept Medicare or bed patients needing skilled care.
