White Oak High hosts two day school book sale

The White Oak High School Library Club sponsors a book sale at the elementary library on Saturday October 23 from 9am to noon and Monday October 25 from 3 to 4 30pm. Proceeds fund library improvements with fiction and non fiction for adults and children at 45e per book.

A new co-educational Explorer Post was organized Monday evening with six members and 14 prospects. Officers elected include Doug Callaway as president Janice Harter as vice president Brenda Williams as second vice president Janet Foss as secretary and David Wilkins as treasurer. Davidson Ford Sales sponsors the post and Ranny Brooking serves as advisor.

Officials of Lone Star Steel Company and United Steelworkers announce a three year labor contract for Morris County plant workers. The agreement was signed Saturday after meetings in which members voted to accept the company's proposal.

Smith County Men Charged In Theft

Gladewater police reported three Smith County men were arrested for theft over 50 dollars in Gregg County and arraigned by City Judge Jack Finley. James Warren 38 Charles Smith 29 and Reggie Smith 22 were transferred to Gregg County jail with bonds set at 2500 each. Warren released on prior bond.

Thursday Volleyball Schedule at Middle School Sets Seven Games

Teams will play Thursday night at Middle School starting 7 p.m. with four men's and three women's matches. Men compete: First Methodist vs Friendship Baptist, Memorial Baptist vs First Christian, East Mountain Baptist vs First Baptist, Church of Christ vs East Mountain Baptist. Quentin Abernathy president of Gladewater First State Bank was named to the first board of regents for Tyler State College for a six year term. Governor Preston Smith selected nine East Texans including Abernathy to the new board.

The builder and former coach has developed Kay Acres, Med-Plaza shopping center, Memorial Baptist Church land, and the 1967 McKaig Chevrolet facility on Longview highway. He runs Goodyear stores, sells real estate, and is vice president of Gladewater Paint Manufacturing Co. with ties to Epoxy Chemical Co. and other local ventures.
