The Gladewater Bears moved to the top of District 14 AA with a 0 0 tie between White Oak and West Rush while Gladewater enjoyed an open date. West Rush and White Oak both stood 2 0 1 in district play, and Gladewater, unbeaten and unscored on, hosted a large crowd at Roughneck Stadium.
The United Fund drive in Gladewater Sabine and Union Grove shows 11 460 25 raised toward a 15 000 goal with 170 25 collected so far. Workers continue soliciting donations and are urged to submit cards and funds to P O Box 459 Gladewater Texas 75647 as campaigns persist.
Eye Opener notes yearbooks ready for pickup at The Mirror office. Elizabeth Nielsen Moore, daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moore, passed her Texas bar exams. Her husband John teaches at DePaul Law School and Northwestern University. Homecoming features Bears versus Mineola Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A bonfire event at Oct 23 8 p.m. invites public. Junior Girl Scout meeting Oct 26 7:45 p.m. Scout Hut Lake Gladewater with Troop 192 at 7 p.m. Parents urged to attend.

Eight Texans from the Texas Bar-Six Lone Star Wagon Train travel by wagon train from Lexington Texas toward Valley Forge Pennsylvania. They pass through towns along Highway 80 in Terrell and plan a cross‑country trek through seven southern states before joining the national Bicentennial train in Richmond Virginia. The group seeks to revive pioneer spirit with log cooking and starry camping as they trace the old western trails.
